Sunday openings

by shirleyk29

Hi, we're coming back to St Malo in June for 7 nights, arriving on a Sunday. Can you tell me if all shops (including those where I could buy a filled baguette) open on Sundays? We parcicularly enjoyed the shop that sold filled baguettes on the corner of La rue Saint-Vincent in the Intra Muros. Thank you.

The last time I was in St Malo on a Sunday morning boucheries and boulangeries were open until about 12 noon.
But local member pfsmalo would know; you could email him - if you do not get bang up to the minute information here.

Hi,

No doubt for sunday till noon, all bakers and some minimarts are open .
If you arrive later, make sure to buy some sandwiches at the trainstation or around it .
This is valid for most places in France except during summer on touristic spots where the shops are open all day long . .

Travel Tips for Saint-Malo

visit St-Malo, a walled city...

by Carmanah

visit St-Malo, a walled city on the beach of the Gulf of St-Malo, in eastern Bretagne. Here's a bustling street of St-Malo at the beginning of the warm October evening. To see more pictures of St-Malo, click on my travelogue with the same name.

A Visit to Saint-Servan-sur-Mer

by Jasen71

Once a town in its own right, it was an independent parish until 1967 when it became incorporated into Saint-Malo. This parish is located at the mouth of the river Rance between the dam and Saint-Malo. Quiet and floral, Saint-Servan boasts numerous places to visit. I will always pay a visit to this town on the outskirts of St Malo to wander thru the Fish and Food Markets and shops. Antique shops I have found five of them.... The shop prices here are cheap than the Walled City of St Malo!!

Boat tour in the bay

by Beckhanne

Very nice way to discover the surroundings and to learn about the history of the city thanks to the boats of the "Compagnie Corsaire". There are several departures throughout the day. The tour itself takes 90 minutes but you can also choose other destinations, including Dinard - which is right opposite Saint-Malo when you embark - or the island of Jersey. See my travelogue Saint-Malo bay for more pictures.

Cité d'Alet

This is the place where the first inhabitans of Saint-Malo settled. There are some amazing viewpoints up there : on the Rance estuary, Saint-Malo of course and the bay. On your way up, you can stop by the memorial of the Second World War. Several blockhouses are still standing.

St Malo

"St Malo seen from Dinard"

The sight of St Malo on the other side of the Rance estuary will entice you to make a visit to this ancient port. Watch the boats (large and small) coming and going and you may even catch a glimpse of dolphins, as we did just before this picture was taken. Unfortunately on the date we visited, the little "vedettes" were no longer running, so we had to go by car. Still it was easy parking right outside the city walls and we spent a lovely afternoon in the town and walking round the ramparts.
