I stayed in Hotel Antheus's pirate inspired 'Corsaire' room. It was a rather quirky and fun room. Apparently every room in this clean and nice little hotel (9 rooms altogether) are decorated according to a different style. All the rooms have a shower cubicle, separate loo, 65cm LCD television screen and free WLAN.
I decided to choose this hotel over some other hotels in the old city because of the good reviews it had received by other travellers online. Many other rooms in the same price category seemed to be much smaller, in need of refurbishment, did not have a private toilet or were located along a noisy street. I didn't mind about the fact the hotel was not located in the old city, since a few kilometres outside the town centre suited me quite well.
It is located in a pretty part of St Malo called Paramé where you can see the locals going to the local buthers, patisserie, bars and restaurants. It was a real authentic experience to blend in with the locals in their own neighbourhood. I enjoyed my stay very much.
