but a rather small royal bed, don't you think? Again, I love the decor in this place, these patterns and hues and fabrics. If only you could read that little red sign at the foot of this bed, it tells about the Royal Assassination which occurred on THIS VERY SPOT a few centuries ago. I have no details for you other than that a knife was involved...yikes!!! So be warned and be careful when you go to sleep tonight, I guess, eh?
The Chapel of St.-Calais was built by Louis XII along the South perimeter of the courtyard. It is attached to a short colonnade that matches his NE Wing and is at right angles to it. The chapel originally had a nave and a choir, but the nave was demolished to give space for the 17C Gaston d'Orleans Wing. The Gothic facade was restored more recently in its original form. The tympanum is decorated with the initials of Louis and his wife Anne de Bretagne plus heraldic signs. The intact choir shows pointed arch Gothic vaulting. The stained glass windows are modern, the work of Max Ingrand in 1957 (his work is also present in Chenonceau and other places in France).
The rooms of the Louis XII Wing have been converted into the Museum des Beaux Arts. Some of the fine mantels remain and there is some appropriate ancient furniture. There is no catalog or written guide and unless you are an art expert you may not be able to identify much. There may also be another fee (but I would not go if there is). There are some nice Virgin and child pictures and many of royalty. We found the ost interesting to be a large Limoges enamel, a Beauvais (?) tapestry of Blois and a portrait of a Medici female (?). As stated consider missing this although the rooms are nicely done.
Blois is located in the middle of the Loire Valley. Blois Castle is different from other castles in regard of the fact that it is located in a city rather than outside in some forest or on some high cliff.
