La Grande Tortue: Camping close to Chambord
La Grande Tortue (the Big Tortoise)is a small well organised campsite. The mobile homes and tents and caravan pitches are at the back of the site. In the middle of the site are some pools and play areas then there is a shop and small restaurant and at the front some spare spaces for last minute tents and caravans. This site is so child friendly that if you state the ages of your children when booking they well ensure you are at the back of the site away from the pools and the road. We went in June and most people there had families under 5, pre school agers, and once the little ones were tucked up in their beds their parents sat outside and we all talked quietly together. A delightful site, although I haven't experienced it in full season. There were lots of low level loos for the tinies and a good laundry. My only complaint was not their fault, it is the Loire Valley, there is the river Cher running along the main roads and you do get a lot of mossies, knats, midges etc so pack plenty of antihistamine creams. I got quite severely bitten. Book direct, not through Eurocamp. It's a lot cheaper!
Unique Quality: Three pools, one very child friendly. Slides, swings, all the usual things to entertain children on a site and within each reach of all the major Chateau.

Chateau Colliers: Stay at a Different Chateau and Visit Chambord
We have wriiten in more detail under Centre> Hotels>Miscellaneous Hotel Tips (and we are not the only one to do so, as you can see). In this picture we show the back of the chateau. The room at the left was our large bedroom (with fully equipped large bath) which opened onto the terrace which faced onto the banks of the Loire (see our other writeup for more pictures and details of our stay). It is only 8 km from here to the parking at Chambord.
Unique Quality: What a way to enhance visiting chateaux (stay at one or more!).

CHATEAU DE COLLIERS
If you want to experience sleeping in a real castle, then this is a good address. It's a nice chateau owned by Mr and Mrs de Gelis and not far from Chambord.
You'll find more pics and info in my travelogue.

High class Tourist Hotel.: Look out your window and view the chateau.
Unique Quality: Hotel St Michel is right there at the gateway to Chambord Chateau. Inside the Parc de Chambord it is ideally suited if you wish to spend a bit of time here and casually take time to see the whole area here. If you like to wake up and view a beautiful chateau out the window, then this is the place to stay.
I don't know the costs, unfortunately as I didn't stay here.

A: "What kind of dangers are you worried about? I would have no second thoughts about cycling in the Loire. Just do it and use common sense like you would everywhere."
