Nice Two Star Hotel near the Cathedral

Very pleasant hotel right across from the Chartres Post Office. You can see the famous cathedral from some of the rooms. The photo is the town post office across the street. I took the picture from our window back when this was the Hotel de la Poste.

The restaurant is no longer in business although there is a bar at the hotel.

The best thing is the location. You can walk nearly anyplace you want to visit in Chartres.

Update 2010: This is now the Hotel Mercure Chartres. The old Hotel de la Poste was bought and completely redone as a part of the Mercure hotel chain. We haven't stayed in it since it changed hands, but Mercure is a reliable chain. My objection is that is is a chain so it is not unique. If you want to know exactly what you are checking into, this may be for you. If you want something quaint or local, you may want to go elsewhere.

Unique Quality: The location is fabulous. There is a little market across the road; the post office is across the street and you can actually see the cathedral from many of the hotel windows. Ask for a cathedral view!

See NOTE in paragraph above.
