Completely Happy at This Hotel

Very happy with this hotel for my situation. Took the train from Paris and was able to walk (perhaps 15 minutes) directly up the street from that station to the hotel -- no chance to get lost! I usually avoid hotel restaurants but since it was Sunday and New Year's Night my choice was limited. My meal was delicious (and I'm used to eating in good restaurants) and priced extremely fair. The crudites appetizer plate for only 4 Euros felt like a steal and was definitely enough for at least two people. The breakfast buffet was also substantial; there's a charge but it was worth it especially considering unlimited coffee which is not typical in French restaurants (paid 9 Euros in Paris for two cups of coffee....the price for the entire buffet at the Ibis). Everyone at the hotel was very pleasant and accommodating. Not a luxury hotel so the bed seemed harder than I enjoy and the towels were skimpy but still an efficient, clean, neatly decorated room -- and the price was an amazing value. I was traveling alone and felt completely safe and comfortable there. Ten minute walk to the cathedral and center of town. Completely happy!

Unique Quality: As another reviewer wrote, it was great to have a computer available in the lobby for fast connectivity; otherwise, the free WiFi did work on my global Blackberry. There was a sofa and sitting area in the lobby where travelers can congregate and beverages were available at the small bar located just next to the reception desk. Was able to store my luggage there post-checkout in order to further explore Chartres the next day.

Clean & Inexpensive in Chartres Center

This is a very clean, modern hotel on the edge of the cathedral/historic district in Chartres. There is a reasonable amount of parking in the area - we were able to find free parking in the next door lot on a holiday weekend - but there is also parking under the hotel for a fee. The rooms are small and modestly outfitted but efficient. The hotel is on one of the main roads into town, so there is a good amount of traffic noise in the rooms towards the front of the building, but the rooms at the back of the hotel seemed larger and quieter. It's a 10 minute walk to the cathedral through charming little streets, and there are many cafes, bars, shops and restaurants around. The hotel has food and drink available all day in the lobby, starting with a nice cold breakfast buffet (baked goods, cereal, yogurt, fruit) for 8E that is available until 12pm. It's definitely nothing fancy, but the dining area extends out to a terrace overlooking a creek and small park offering a nice place to sit if the weather is good.

Unique Quality: A clean, convenient, well-priced option with the amenities of an international business-style hotel
