Orléans is a city in north-central France, about 130 kilometres southwest of Paris. It is the capital of the Loiret department and of the Centre region.
Orléans is located on the Loire River where the river curves south towards the Massif Central.
Orleans is a historic town in the most northerly part of the Loire Valley. Orleans has a rich history, most notably perhaps as the place where Joan of Arc made her name by ending a long siege imposed by the British, marking the beginning of the end of the Hundred Years' War, with the English being expelled from France finally in 1453.
The people of Orleans have not forgotten their Joan of Arc, as you will immediately notice when you visit this town. The Boulevard Rue Jeanne d'Arc is a grand 19th century run to the awesome St. Croix Cathedral, where you will find a tribute to her in the form of an altar carved with scenes from her life and stained glass windows further expanding on her story.
When I visit here just day tour, mostly in old town of Orleans.
