Hotel Val de Loire: Fantastic Hotel/Hostel!

    Technically I suppose this is a hotel but I found it via both the RyanAir hostel network and hostelworld.com. It is FANTASTIC!! I was staying by myself and for my private room with a double bed it was 32 euros per night, which is pretty good. But the truly amazing thing about Hotel Val de Loire is the location. Right in the centre of things, basically a five minute walk from just about anything you'd want to see in Tours....maybe ten minutes to Place Plumereau. Directly across the streeet from the tourism office and about two minutes from the train/bus station. The furnishings aren't fancy but I really enjoyed the homey feel of it. The service was SUPERB! My bank account got frozen because it was suspected that someone was hacking in and the owner told me not to worry, to just call back with my credit card number when I could!!! And people say the French are rude?!?! It was amazing! I most definitely would recommend it to anyone!

    Back of the chateau. One actually drives to the back entrace to enter the chateau.

    There is a LARGE garden at the back, as well as some woods.

    It is a chateau hotel, with newer looking.

    We stayed in one of the tower rooms (second floor in the tower on the right). It was a suite with a sitting room and a round bed room.

    The hotel also has a very good restaurant serving excellent food.

    Entirely refurbished in 1997, offers bedrooms for 1 to 3 persons, a free private parking. The hotel is located just a stone's throw from the old Tours (dating back to the 11th century) and in the heart of the Loire Valley, well known for its splendid Castles such as Azay-le-Rideau (15km), and Chenonceaux (30km). From the hotel you will discover: the museums of Fine Arts and of Guild, the Saint Gatien Cathedral, famous wine cellars such as: Cchinon, Vouvray and Monmousseau etc. the touraine Aquarium and the mini-castles park (25km).

    Our entire group of 30 stayed at the Hotel Ibis in Tours. There were 4 of us per room. It was definitely a comfortable hotel in a good part of the city. Our room had 4 beds (2 bunkbeds), its own bathroom, and a nice view to the side street. I remember there being a swimming pool and a restaurant downstairs.

    • There's no good reason to stay here - the location is not very good (you don't really want to hang around in the middle of Tours for too long), the towels were threadbare, a pillowcase dirty, decor awful. Even the hairdryer wasn't properly mounted on the wall so the hairdryer fell off. Sorry to be so harsh, but you should stay outside Tours, in Blois or Amboise or anywhere else, really.

    Nothing to recommend it. Just a bit better than a private room in a hostel.
