A PRIVATE WINE CELLAR
Given a tour of the family root cellar, which holds the precious wines as well.
The fruit trees in the yard supply the juice and the neighbor across the way makes the wine--a fine partnership and the wine is very strong!

Hi, i am traveling to tours in a few weeks and need to know where 1 place Gregoire de Tours is located. i have looked it up on google. but it only gives me results for 2 place gregoire de tours, which is a school. If anyone knows anything about this please let me know. THanks, JS.
I tried www.viamichelin.com but it didn't come up with a good result.
You can always get a free map at the Tourist Office in Tours.
I've sent you a printscreen via VT mail.
On http://www.quid.fr/communes.html?mode=detail&id=10836&style=fiche you can find under Architecture Civile that it is a 'ancienne maison canoniale'
Ancienne maison is an old house. Canoniale could mean that it is a clergy house, or maybe even a church of sorts. A place where religious issues or church law is practised. However, it doesn't mean it is used for this today.
thanks for your help!!!! i really appreciate it.

The Chambord castle.
Owned by François 1er at some point. This castle is gorgeous with all its chimneys and pointy roofs. The visit is a must.

If you come to Tours for visiting the several chateaus of the Loire Valley region and you don't want (or even you want) to go on your own, pass by the tourism office of Tours which is just opposit the main train station along the boulevard heurteloup.
They have all the affordable packages combining 2 to several chateau visits either half day or full day excursions including visits to winery and tips on visiting sites inside Tours for free + a map of the city.
I lived in a small hamlet to the east of Tours for 6 months from July to Dec 2003. Exploring the towns of Amboise, Blere and Tours was a delight. It is a very quiet area, little crime, very safe to walk around at night on my own. I spent a lot of time on my own as hubby was "earning the pennies" as he so tartly put it.... However, we had lots of visitors and the peace and quiet without constant GBH of the ear from hubby was welcome......
Blere has a gourmet restaurant called Le Cheval Blanc tel 02 47 30 30 14 which serves marvellous food and of course the local Val de Loire wines. Last meal there was two menus at 30 euros each and a bottle of Chenonceaux rouge at 20 euros.......... nice wine!!!! Well worth visiting. There is also a lovely cafe Ermeraud in the town square which is pleasant to pass an afternoon in watching various car accidents happen...... I learnt a lot of very bad French that way!
Another good one is Le Cave at Montlouis, excellent food, price for the gournet 5 course meal including wine was 37 Euros, you had a glass of champagne, the usual "surprise" hors d'ouvres, starter, main, cheese, dessert course and a bottle of the Montlouis wine, red or white, both are excellent. Setting is inside the big cave with a rather grand fireplace. Well thought out decor and atmosphere. Highly reccommended for lovers.
Amboise has the castle of course, bit touristy, but nice to walk around. Best restaurant there is the Epicerie, just opposite the castle, you have to book as it is VERY popular. Amboise is right on the Loire river, perfect for romantic strolls after dinner with your loved one (if you can still stand after all that wine....). Falling in the river is not recommended as no-one will come looking for you.......... Amboise has only got 1 policeman.....
Tours is a lovely town, full of intruiging little shops and streets to explore. It is a delight to find a small square or cafe quite by chance when you are hot and tired.
You can find quite a few of these lovely little places to stop and rest. I love the way that even tiny places have tables outside on the pavement so that you can people watch or simply enjoy the summer evenings.
