Bordeaux take the tram which is cheap lets u on and off. contact atypic (VTer) who might show u around. Nice is expensive for both food and accomodation although I found Hotel Ibis a bargain if you book in advance. With Nice u need to go to the seafront and people watch. Free and entertaining. Lyon is a BIG city. Suggest u research other VTers site on that.
I never had a problem in France when I was a young woman. You will get appreciated and even approached. Just say NON lol.
You can look up Hotel Logis or Hotel Ibis in each town. They have a certain standard dictated by the French Tourisme Board. Everything is clean and well regulated. If you want REALLY cheap go to Formule 1 where you share a shower and it is flushed after each visit, rooms are 25 euros. You find them in the Zone Industrielle near each town. Also search for Hotel Balladins online you can get good deals there.
