stay a moment at the WAX...
by GUYON
stay a moment at the WAX MUSEUM (Historial de Touraine) Joan of Arc heard voices before the invention of the mini tape recorders. You know certainly the story : she came from Lorrain, obtained an Army from Charles 7th, delivered Orleans besieged by English soldiers, made possible the coronation of Charles 7th, was wounded in front of Paris, was made prisonner, considered as a witch and burned, not by the English but by the Burgundians.
Musée Goüin: ‘Musée Archéologique’
by tiabunna
With its fancy 15th century renaissance façade this former town mansion building is a stunner and, though the building it conceals was damaged by fire following the bombings of 1940, the restorations are not discernable.
Inside is the archaeological museum run by the ‘Archaeological Society of Touraine’ – unfortunately there is a rule of ’no photos’ inside. The interesting and eclectic collection includes material dating from the palaeolithic and Roman history of the Touraine area to the late 19th century. It warrants a visit, though unless you have a specialised interest your stay is unlikely to be extended. Guided tours are available.
Musee des Beaux-Arts

The building of the museum is the former archbishop palace in Tours. One of France best provincial museum, it houses wide range collections of painting and rugs from the great houses of Touraine during the Revolution, supplemented by loans from the Musée du Louvre and the French state, gifts, bequests and acquisitions.
The collection of paintings are breath-taking. A 200 years old Lebanon cedar tree will greet you right at the entrance of the museum.
TIP: go there late in the afternoon, around 6pm I think, entrance is free by then!
Moscow - Tours
by Kuznetsov_Sergey
Tours is known since times of Juli Caesar. It served as a temporary residence of french kings: Charles VII, Lui XI, Francisk I. Now it is the main city of Turen.
Picturesque Place Plumereau is the center of the old city. St Gatien Cathedrale was constructed in the XIII-th century. Church Notre Dam la Rish. St Martin's Basilique, in which the sacred Marten - the defender of francs was buried. Three towers - Giza, Charles and Hour are worth watching.
I felt, that I was a little tired during my journey in Tour. It was for the first time during this long journey along France. Therefore, having examined all the sights listed in the guidebook, I retired at a coast of Loire under the bridge.
I began to observe quickly running waters and a sunset. It was required to digest numerous impressions, but there were even more half of a trip ahead!
