Train from Paris

by meganavery

Hi all,
I know I've read there is a train from Paris to Epernay and I've even seen the rail map showing this but every time I search for one I get no results. Is there really a train that one can take from Paris to Epernay? And if anyone knows does a Eurail pass cover this?

Thanks for any and all help!

http://agence.ravel.tm.fr/dynamic/_SvTermCommVoySaisie?_TMS=1203538002643&_DLG=SvTermCommVoySaisie&_LANG=UK&_AGENCY=RAUK shows train times for this journey.

If that link doesn't work, go to www.sncf.co.uk and enter 'Paris' then 'any other station' into the left-hand search box. Click 'proced' and you'll be taken to the page I linked above.

The Eurail pass will be valid, assuming you have purchased one which covers travel in France.

If you continue to have difficulties, go to this site:

http://www.voyages-sncf.com

Choose:

departure - Paris Est
arrival - Epernay
your desired dates and time

You should see numerous trains each day taking about 1 1/2 hours en route.

Hike through the Vineyards

by amlanza

Epernay is a very small city, with vineyards within the city limits. This allows you to literally hike through the vineyards, and offers some spectacular views. Stop by the tourist office in downtown Epernay (in the Hotel de Ville), and pick up a map of the city. Ask about the foot path through the vineyards. It is a 10 minute walk from there before you are in the vineyards, which extend for miles. You can do a short, 1 hour hike or just keep going. I walked for about 2.5 hours in one direction, and descended upon a little village. This is surely a great way to entertain yourself in this beautiful region, and the price is right!

"Lots of Champagne tours"

This was the best tour of the three we took on this trip. We did not have a reservation, we just stopped in after the Mercier tour as it was only a few blocks away. We stopped in @ 4pm and a tour in english was starting in a few minutes so we took it. Before the tour started we had time to look through their extensive museum of the wine making history and time to climb to the top of the tower. Its a long climb but the view is worth it and there are things to see on different levels on the way up. The tour turned out to be us and 1 other guy so we got to ask lots of questions and really learned a lot. They let you get a lot closer to the bottles and see up close what is going.

Epernay

Epernay is known for one thing: Champagne. This village is located in the Champagne region of France and is home to some of the most famous Champagne caves including: Moet and Chandon, Perrier-Jouet and Mercier. Its an hour train ride from Gare de l'Est in Paris. Click on the travelogue below to see more pictures.

Epernay, capitol of the Champagne

by Pavlik_NL

"Let there be bubbles ..."

Just a few minutes drive over the freeway from Reims will bring you in the centre of the Chamagne-region. Epernay can be called the capitol of this, maybe most famous, French wine district. The town itself is not that spectacular, but here is the "Avenue des Champagne" along which you find the most famous Champagne-houses of the world. Most of them offer tours through the extensive cellars under the town and explain about the exclusive making of the wine of all wines: Champagne. A drive through Epernays environment will show you the regular sloops full of wineyards. Here too many houses of Champagne can be visited and make sure you return home with at least a few bottles of Champagne.
