My friend and I are travelling to Epernay from Paris on Friday June 26th in the morning and have appointments at two wineries (Champagne Jacquesson in Dizy and Champagne Barnaut in Bouzy) at 10:00 and 15:00; we were going to have lunch at Bistro 7 in between and explore a little. However, I can't find a car to rent from the Epernay train station for the day. Does anyone know of a car service that would drive us for the day? Or should we rent a car in Paris and just drive the entire way? I'm nervous about driving in Paris... Thanks so much!
If I was considering your journey, I may look to travel by TGV to Reims. The train takes about 45 minutes. Am sure you should find a car at Reims. The drive into Champagne country can be pleasant and about 30 minutes from Reims to your first appointment. not only is the train journey a comfortable experience but there is a lot to see also in Reims if you have some time. The cathedral is a masterpiece:

Please don't die before knocking on a couple of doors on the Avenue de Champagne in Epernay.
Don't feel bad about it - the major Houses located on the Avenue all charge you for the tour and the tasting afterwards!!
A tip re the tasting part - more bang for your buck!
Suffer from mobility problems? Some houses have many stairs to climb/descend during a visit. Take the weight off your feet. Mercier has a lift (elevator) and a petit train ride around the cellars.
Do I qualify? In the "When was your last visit:" section I have put - "I visit frequently"..... Every second year since 1994 : a couple of times twice in the year. Could be "frequent"? Anyway several visits plus the odd taste or two back on the range in Australia leads me to have an opinion on the product of the region.

Epernay is truly the heart of France's champagne region. When you arrive (about an hour outside of Paris by train), the breath taking vineyards are visible within the city limits. For anyone who wants to see the champagne region, but lacks access to a car, Epernay is a must!
Well... close to it at least. Epernay is an excellent destination. I have been to Europe three times and every time I make a point of getting out to Epernay. I love the champagne and the small city feel of this very hospitable French town. Some of the great champagne houses include Moet & Chandon, Perrier Jouet and Leclerc Briant.
You probably haven't heard of Leclerc Briant. Most people haven't. They only do about two tours of their establishment every two weeks (as opposed to Moet who does hundreds a day). They are a privately owned family run champagne house located a bit of a walk from the Avenue Du Champagne. It is worth the walk. They provide a very interesting, private tour and an excellent tasting. We purchased two bottles from this house alone to bring back with us. Very reasonable prices as well.
Seen here is some of the best champagne known to man. I like to call this the Hall of Dom as it is a very long hall below the Moet & Chandon Maison, lined with Dom Perignon Magnum bottles. Very nice. I tried to buy a bottle of 1985 Vintage Dom during the trip, but they were all out. =(
