Basilica de Saint- Remi - another highlight in Reims !
Reims is an ancient Roman city and the birthplace of the French nation – it contains one of the most impressive Gothic cathedrals in France, the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Reims, where dynasties of French monarchs were crowned starting with Clovis, first king of the Franks. The neighbouring Basilique St-Rémi is even older and, half Gothic, half Romanesque in style, includes the old royal abbey which is now a museum documenting the history of the town
Palais du Tau
by Tom_Fields
The Palais du Tau, or Palace Museum, is a former bishop's residence, now a museum of ecclesiastical life. It's so named because its layout forms a T shape, with "tau" being the Greek letter T. This is where French kings prepared for their coronation ceremonies, and held their banquets afterwards. Burned in World War I, it was restored after World War II. It has some interesting exhibits and examples of medieval tapestries and other artwork.
Stained glass windows
by dinhyen
Many of Reims' famous stained glass windows were blown to bits during fighting in WWI. Many of the surviving panels depict scenes of wine production, the principal industry of the region. Some have been replaced by biblical-themed works by Russian-French painter Marc Chagall.
