Besançon walks
by barryg23
After a nice lunch by the river we climbed to the top of the hill overlooking the town. There was a great view of Besancon and the surrounding regions. I also remember there was a Castle at the top of this hill but as the entrance fee was 30F and we were still poor students, we had to forgo a visit. Next time!

It would be a great disappointment to forget your camera after walking to the top of the hill. There are great views from here in both directions - to the west you get an excellent panorama of the town, while to the east you can see the mountains and valley.
La citadelle
by Martin_B
You must visit 'La Citadelle'. It is located on the top of the mountain and from there you can see all the city of Besancon. There is a LOT of think to see inside. There is museum that you want to read everything but it's very long to visit or read the whole thing. The section who talked about the Holocauste in Germany/poland was very interesting. You learn a lot over that museum.

Visit the CITADELLE, constructed by the instructions of LOUIS XIV, Le roi du soleil. It's a magnificent sight by night and be sure to get to the highest point to take a look at the view of Besançon. Don't miss the great musuems in the Citadelle!

Besançon, France
Besançon is a city of 140,000 located in the heart of the Franche-Comté region. It is a beautiful, historically significant city situated in the foothills of the Jura Mountains. The exchange program between the University of Kansas and the Université de Franche-Comté was initiated in 1985 to provide a low-cost opportunity for American students to study at a French university, while their counterparts from the Université de Franche-Comté study on the KU campus.
The Université de Franche-Comté
The exchange is coordinated in France by faculty at the IUT (Institut Universitaire de Technologie), where the program offices are housed. The on-site coordinator at the IUT is Pascale Bouvet, a professor of English. The KU Office of Study Abroad, in consultation with the French Department, appoints a Graduate Program Assistant to help students with orientation, housing arrangements, and university enrollment, and to provide cultural, academic, and social resources and advice for KU students as needed.
