Municipal Campsite

by StephenCox

Has anyone stayed at the Municipal campsite at Rouen (Deville-les-Rouen) Can you get a bus into Rouen itself?

RE: Municipal Campsite

by Dunx

I haven't stayed at the campsite, but on visits to Rouen I have found their public transport website very useful. There's a route planner here:
http://www.tcar.fr/ftp/FR_plan/plan_reseau.pdf
and plenty of useful stuff (timetables etc) on the site www.tcar.fr

Deville is on the north (right) bank of the Seine not too far west of the centre. There appears to be good public transport in the area.

Hope this helps.

Travel Tips for Rouen

Église St Maclou, baptism of Jesus

by JLBG

John the Baptist baptized Jesus in the Jordan river near Bethany. Jesus was about 30 years old when he was baptized. John was reluctant to baptize Jesus, for he said, "I have need to be baptized by you." John knew that Jesus was the Son of God. Jesus had no need to be forgiven of sins because he was sinless. Knowing John's reluctance, Jesus told him, "It is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness." So John obeyed Jesus and baptized him in the Jordan River. When Jesus came up out of the water, the Holy Spirit descended as a dove, and the voice of God spoke from Heaven, saying, "This is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased."

Le Gros Horloge, a flock of sheeps

by JLBG

The underneath of the vault of the Gros Horloge is entirely carved. On one side, a large medallion shows a flock of sheep in a landscape with Mediterranean looking trees (Pinus maritima, Parasol pine). Animam suam povit pro ovibus suis.

Gothic, the architectural style of Normandy

by Pavlik_NL

The architectural style of gothics is created in and spreaded from Normandy. First experiments in this very important architectural style that is one of the main styles from medieval Europe, were made in Europe and got perfected in the many cathedrales that arose in the early medieval centuries. Slowly but steadily it spread over Europe and the world. Fine gothic works can above all be seen in cathedrale Notre-Dame de Rouen, as well as in the Palace of Justice, the abbey church of Saint-Ouen and the hurch of Saint-Maclou.

Tour Jeanne d'Arc

by hquittner

The so called "Tour Jeanne d'Arc" is at the northwest edge of the old town. We could see from the street corner as we left our quaint old hotel (See Tip). It is actually the keep and the only part surviving of the Chateau that Philippe Augustus built in the 12 C. (A plaque denoting the exact site of Jeanne's imprisonment in the castle is a short distance off). This structure is a museum (fee) to the Saint explaining the details of her capture inquisition and execution. (We did not go in).

Gros Horloge

by Voyageuse30

This Renaissance clock tower was built in the late 1300s and the clock itself still works! A single hour-hand shows the time.

This area is one of Rouen's best opportunities for people-watching.

Nearby are plenty of shops and cafes, and sites related to Jeanne d'Arc.
