Train from CDG Airport to Rouen?

by Jerrykl

Can someone who lives in Rouen tell me please if it is possible to to take a train from Charles de Gaulle Airport to Rouen or any other city in Normandy without going first into Paris? If there is no train, is there a direct bus from the airport to Rouen? Merci beaucoup. Jerry

Re: Train from CDG Airport to Rouen?

by rouen

I can give you some info about this as I've lived in Rouen for this past year. Unfortunately there are no trains that go from CDG airport to Rouen or anywhere in Normandy. I ended up taking a shuttle bus which I booked online. (just do a search and there are loads of them) It'll be about 20 euros. OR you can take the Roissybus...an airport bus that runs every 15 minutes to rue Scribe at Opera Garnier in central Paris....luckily, the Gare St Lazarre is very near and that train station handles all Normandy-bound trains. The Roissybus has several stops at Terminals 1 and 2. Then of course there is the RER train that takes you to gare the Nord or a taxi. Hope that helps!

Travel Tips for Rouen

Église Saint Maclou, the north portal, left

by JLBG

On the left, the top medallion the North portal of the église Saint Maclou seems to represent the transport of the Arch. On this picture, some of the musician angels are better seen : harp, psalterion, rebec-viol, portable organ.

Place du Vieux Marché

by JLBG

Place du Vieux Marché is a pedestrian only area. This is a place where there are always many people strolling, citizens of Rouen or visitors. If you listen around you, you will soon realize that French is not the language the most spoken on the Place du Vieux Marché !

Jeanne d'Arc, patron saint of...

by ATLC

Jeanne d'Arc, patron saint of France, was tried and burned at the stake in Rouen. The English and French fought each other in the Hundred Years War until Jeanne d'Arc helped put Charles VII on the throne. He was crowned in Reims.
Then in 1430 the English threatened the French with economic sanctions and so Jeanne d'Arc was handed over for imprisonment by the bishop of Beauvais.
After 3 months of trial on May 24th 1431, she finally gave in to the accusations of heresy, was made to promise never to wear men's clothes again and was sentenced to life imprisonment.
The furious English however, wanted her dead. Her women's clothes were taken away by her guards, she was made to go out for some necessary excercise in men's clothes. So she supposedly broke her promise and was condemned to the stake and burned on May 30th 1431. Her heart, unconsumed by fire, was thrown in the Seine. In 1449, Charles VII recaptured Rouen from the English and rehabilitated her. In 1920 was made Patron Saint of France.
One of the better films made about the life of Jeanne d'Arc is by Luc Besson (1999) with Milla Jovovitch, Dustin Hoffman, Faye Dunaway and John Malkovitch.

Get lost, in the alleys of old Rouen

by Pavlik_NL

Most medieval towns that are still having parts in original styles, are filled with thousand and one small, smaller and narrowest alleys, that connect the streets and run between the houses. Sometimes these alleys lead to surprising little secret squares, yards or gardens. Roam around in the streets of Rouen and maybe get lost ... in the knowledge that you never can be far from main attractions such as the Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Rouen or Saint-Maclou.

Cathedrale Notre Dame

by Cristian_Uluru

The Notre Dame Cathedral is probably one of the best Gothic French churches and it is a wonderful example of the development of the Gorhic architecture from the 13th century to the 16th century (1514).
It was consacreted in 1063 but a fire destroyed everything in 1200. Thanks the work of Jean of Andely the church was finished after three century.
