An Old Unforgettable Memory of Rouen
It was 1982. It was our first trip outside of Paris into France. We had just arrived by train planning to stay two nights. We had back-packs and no reservations, but had a list of potential lodgings. We saw the Morand shortly after leaving the station and went in. It was full but when we said we were staying two nights, the manager offered us the "bridal suite" (I think chambre 10) at the standard price. We have never forgotten this charming building or the opulent room and the pleasant area where we ate our petit dejeuner or had aperatifs. It was right near the Jeanne d'Arc Tower (which we would have missed-See Tip) and the Beaux Arts which is must for a 2-day visit. The rest Old Rouen is also that close. We did not know whether such a delight still existed until we saw a recommendation by VTer sue_stone and decided to add our favorable vote!
Unique Quality: Old 17C Post House. The Hotel has only 17 rooms so be sure to not emulate us and reserve ahead. Like everything in old Rouen, if you are coming by car, there is no parking, so work out your logistics and use the central municipal parking.

central and friendly
Hotel Le Morand is a clean and friendly hotel located in the centre of Rouen. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this 2 star hotel, considering it is so well located to the main attractions but very reasonably priced.
The outside of the building looks more modern than the inside, which has beamed ceilings and traditionally decorated rooms. Staff we all smiles and helpful with any queries or sight seeing suggestions.
A meal in the old fashioned breakfast room was a pleasant way to start the day and also good value compared to some of the hotel breakfasts I have had!
Unique Quality: Our room was quite large, and eclectically decorated, with its papered feature wall. The room was clean and had a TV and desk. There was also a small bathroom which was fine, except that water from the shower would splash all over the floor.
Our travelling companions single room was also good, with enough room to move around and more of that impressive wall paper!
There is no parking for the hotel, and it is almost impossible to get a spot in the surrounding streets. Best bet is to park in the Palais de Justice underground parking area, which is around a 5 minute walk to the hotel.
The cost of a double room in June 2006 was 50 euro per room per night, and a single room was 40 euro. Breakfast was an additional 6 euro per person.
