I spent two nights at Hotel Autueil Tour-Eiffel in early December last year. Really hard to recommend as I was only at the hotel to sleep, I never used any of their facilities. I chose it only because it was the cheapest I could get at the time that is near the Tower. This is just a few blocks across the Seine but quite an enjoyable walk. You'll get a great unobstructed view of the Tower as you walk along the Seine and over the Passy Bridge. Room was clean, so with bathroom and shower...good water pressure. Did not get much interaction with the staff. Just like anywhere around this area, the room is not big but not any smaller than the standard rooms I had at Ibis, London. http://www.auteuiltoureiffel.com/ Theme: HotelPrice: US$120-180 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: 8-10 rue Félicien David 75 016 Paris Tél 33 (0)1 40 50 57 57 Fax 33 (0)1 40 50 57 58

This is a tiny, comparatively affordable hotel in the Madeliene district, located conveniently close to public transportation, shopping, Place de Concorde, the Louvre & Jardin de Tullieries, and Champs de Ellysses. It is located approximately 4 doors down from it's higher priced sister property, Best Western Folklore. It offers comfortable, attrative, but small rooms with friendly and helpful staff. I had a great stay as the location is perfect. Theme: HotelPrice: US$40-80 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: Madeliene Opera District

I had to get a reasonable hotel close to the Champs de Elysees on very short notice and I stumbled upon this tiny and very charming Best Western. I did not even feel like I was staying in a Best Western- I felt like I was staying at a Bed and Breakfast- mostly because this building is an old 1890 Haussmann style building. All of the employees spoke English but were more than patience when I wanted to practice my broken French! The inside looks like an old French family style house, it was nice to sit and look through my map in room that resembled a living room rather than a lobby. There is not too much night life and this ally is packed with more smaller business and than restaurants and shops- but it feels as if you are staying in an apartment rather than a hotel.
Again, this hotel's charm is it's best quality! Very quaint and charming for a 4 star hotel. Theme: HotelPrice: US$120-180 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: 10, rue Saint Philippe du Roule 8th Arr., Paris 75008, FranceDirections: 8th Arr

This is a very nice hotel! I usually do not stay in hotels like this as they are sometimes too much for me in both price and over-the-top style but it was impeccable and had great service. The rooms are very modern with simple whites and vibrant purples/orchid colors. It is definitely not a cozy bed and breakfast type, but was a very room to come back to especially after sigh-seeing all day. The hotel seemed to have mostly smaller parties and a lot of business travel- which made the bar and restaurant very quiet- yet a nice place to sit and have a drink. The staff was also very accommodating and very helpful to tourists- I like to practice my very limited French and they were more than patience when it look me longer than one would like to ask about check out time in French.
There is parking available- which is rare for a hotel in Paris! Also, many of the rooms have great views- with some even of the Eiffel Tower!

This gite (like a B&B in the country) is in the Luberon region of Provence (France), on the outskirts of the town of Apt. We like quiet, so I emailed ahead to ask whether or not there were any major roads nearby. The owner assured me there were not. But when we arrived, we found that the place is very near the intersection of TWO major roads (one of these is the D900). From in front of our room, we could hear the constant roar of traffic, occasional blatt of a motorbike, etc. Also, the place seemed generally run down, goose droppings lying around, . . . we left after one night (and found a very nice substitute), although we had originally agreed to stay for 4. The owner charged my credit card for the additional 3 nights, and has refused to return the money (or to answer my email about the matter); we are disputing the charge. For families traveling in large groups, this gite would be quite inexpensive compared with most alternatives. But avoid it at all costs if you care about noise, or about attractive surroundings. (Photo from website) by vinc_bilb An other way for your holidays I used Gites de France and it could be an interesting alternative to the "classical" solutions (Hotels, ...). The web site provides access to a lot of resources: rural gites, bed and breakfasts, stopover gites, camping, children's gites, overseas departments included. A similar and reliable site too: B& B - Holiday Rentals France
The Gîtes de France label is now the largest guest-house network in Europe. If you are looking for: - comfortable, friendly holiday stays, - authentic and convivial holidays in natural settings - a different contact with "locals" - A holiday home for family or friends to stay (for a long week-end or one week minimum)

How to get there by american_tourister I found it by accident. It is set in pine forest above the med. You can see the ocaen from the balconies but you are far enough away that you are removed from all the tourists. It is a small inn that is run by a couple who lived in Tahiti for years. I loved it!
They have a full blown zoo! There are Llamas, monkeys, camels, etc. It has a lot of folks staying who want to be in the area but want seclusion. The South Korean Ambassador to France was in the room next to me. Theme: InnPrice: US$40-80 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Domaine du Bois Fleuri . Was the room on the small side? Yes. However, ALL rooms in Europe are small to Americans - that's just the way they are. The Eiffel Park is a 30 second walk from a Metro station, a 5 minute walk to a major intersection with several excellent bistros, and a 10 minute walk to the base of the Eiffel. Hidden away on a bit of a side street, there was not the usual ton of traffic running back and forth that you'd typically see on a main street - nice and quiet. The very large picture window opened wide, and added a very airy, open quality to the room. Important to note - the rooms have A/C (this is actually rare in older hotels in Paris), so those days that were too warm for the window to be open, were still quite comfortable. Right around the corner is a Starbucks, and only about 100 feet from the front door is a laundromat. (Paris tip....there are laundromats everywhere. Don't take a suitcase full of crap to lug around - pack light, and do laundry in the middle of the trip.)
There is a wonderful little rooftop terrace where you can sit outside and have your breakfast, or drink your evening coffee. Even more unique though, the terrace houses several beehives, and the hotel makes and sells their own honey. (Which is quite wonderful...)
