 | France Reviews | Tips 101 - 110 of 440 | | Le Chateau Des Reynats is located in the village of Chancelade. The chateau looks like a fairytale castle. The lobby is rather dark and the stairway is somewhat awkward to navigate around to get to the lounge area and the dining room. The dining room is truly magnificent. There are grand chandeliers with big round tables nicely covered with linen tablecloths. There are only 16 rooms in the chateau itself so other accomodations are offered in the annex. Guess where we stayed? Our room in the annex was OK. The room had rose colored walls with toile drapes and bedspread. Our bed was a double, so not a lot of room. The soap was a tiny offering, and the towels were very thin and worn. Everything was clean and the hallway was very intersting. The walls in the hall were covered with photos of events that happened long ago in this area of France. A nice touch.
I thought the dining room was very elegant and befitting a chateau. The food that was served was excellent. The trees outside the chateau and the annex were huge chestnut trees, and made for a nice promenade. The pool was also very nice behind the chateau. It was too cold for a swim when we were there. The dining room opened to the terrace that was by the pool. It was a nice arrangement and is probably quite lovely during a warmer time. This hotel was just a delightful small place. The rooms had the yellow and blue colors of Provence on the beds and windows. The rooms are very tiny with no room for two suitcases. We had to close up the suitcase stand in the closet so that we could put the chair in there to give us some space in the room. The bathroom was very clean. There are only two floors in this hotel. The main dining room has beamed ceilings, and a light gray colored wood floor. The lobby has a small intimate area with comfortable chairs and a fireplace. The dinner that the restaurant served was excellent. They used phyllo pastry to enclose salmon and minced carrots and zuccinni. A wonderful salad was offered before the entre. I would definitely stay here again. The nearest major airport is in Toulouse.
There was a nice outdoor pool at this hotel. We were on a tour and arrived quite late so there really wasn't any time to use the pool. It also had turned quite cold so a swim wasn't real appealing at that time. Each room has a view of the castle of Carcassone or the gardens. After the dinner we walked a short way to the castle and enjoyed the ambiance of the town lit up for the evening. This is a double walled castle, and there is a drawbridge to use as the entry into the portcullis. We were quite impressed with the Radisson SAS in Lyon; it's the tallest hotel in Europe. Because it is built round, all the rooms have a great view of Lyon. Our room had a side view of the basillica, which was really stunning at night. Check in was on the 32nd floor and we stayed on the 33rd floor. I must say though, this hotel is quite far from the downtown area of Lyon. We were on a tour so it was no problem for transportation to our restaurant and to enjoy the sights of the city. The rooms were quite spacious, duvets on the beds and the bathroom was contemporary.
I would say the most outstanding characterisitic of this hotel was the fact that every room offered a view. Leave a Comment Theme: HotelAddress: 129 Rue Servient, Lyon, FranceDirections: In the center of the business district. Not near the old, quaint section of LyonWebsite: www.radisson.com

We stayed three nights at the Renaissance La Defense. The outside is not that impressive but the interior was gorgeous. Shiny marble floors in the lobbies and several grand staircases greeted us when we registered. We were amazed to see how this part of Paris has grown! The Renaissnce is a Marriott property and it is very nice. La Defense is a long way from downtown but there is a Metro stop just 5 minutes from the hotel. There is also a huge mall just about 10 minutes walk away. There you will find an enormous grocery store with an amazing fresh produce and fresh meat, fish and poultry area. There are miles of stores and restaurants at this mall also. All the beds have beautiful duvets for their covering and the pillows are extraordinarily comfortable. We were on a tour so our breakfast was included. Once again the dining area was beautiful with dark paneling on the walls, and tables covered with linen clothes. Breakfast included fresh fruit, juices, coffee and tea for drinks. Several varities of cheese and cold meats were offered with scrambled eggs, hot meats and croissants and baguettes along with an excellent selection of yogurt.
Not many people seemed to notice the spa that was located right by the lifts. It was really great. The room that had the exercise equipment was lined with mirrors. The spa had a dry sauna and a steam sauna. Here you greeted by a bar that had towles nicely laid out along with water and drinking cups and a bowl of Granny Smith apples. There were several showers and changing areas next to the saunas. This is a good hotel to explore and look for birds in Pyrenees Nat. Park. We had a lovely room here with a living room, kitchen, bedroom and bath. We also had a lovely view of the town square from our balcony that was full of potted flowers. We ate both breakfast and dinner here. The food was good but we felt that they served the same tray of salmon on their first course buffet several nights in a row which doesn't seem to be that sanitary. The menu for dinner is set with several courses. One night the 2nd course was a pastry meat pie that was ok, then the main course with a piece of meat in sauce and vegetables and bread which was good.(Never did figure out what kind of meat!) Then dessert and coffee. Another thing to get used to is that the halls are dark if you go out of your room after dark. They cut lights off to conserve electricity which is 5 times as much as in the US. When you flip the light switch in the hall, the lights come on for about 2 min. then cut back off. That gives you time to find your key and get into your room. I don't know the cost since it was included in the tour price. While exploring the Camargue, we stayed at a small local hotel in the small town of Le Sambuc called Longo Mai Hotel. The rooms were clean but rather basic. I did enjoy the very large footed bath tub. We ate breakfast and dinner here also and it was fairly good. There was a special thing here which I enjoyed because I am a cat person but I realize that not everyone is. There were a lot of cats living here. There was a large gray one who was a permanent fixture on our window ledge. Also they were in the dining room because the door was only a hanging curtain so they could go and come at will. When you went in to eat, you had to remove the cats from the chairs before you sat down. There were House Martins nesting under the eaves of the hotel and Lavendar was blooming in the front flower beds. Also Le Sambuc is a nice small town. We explored a bit walking down some of the streets. We couldn't speak French but could smile and wave which usually were returned. Wonderful hotel and well known for its many historical figures that spent a night here. Like J.F. Kennedy and Churchill as well as several European royals.
I adored the soaps in this hotel. Those old fashioned French ones. I was bad and packed them each day so that I got new ones each day too. Spent 3 nights here. Leave a Comment

I think it's good accomodation. Good cuisine, along the route to Cote d'Azur but really near the centre of the small town of Vence.
