Travel Tips for Fontainebleau

Museum of Napoleon era

by Cheff

For those passionate about Napoleon history (especially military) a visit to the Musee Napoleonien would be of great interest. It is relatively small but well selected collection of uniforms, weapons and documents of Napoleon times. The museum is located on rue Saint-Honore, about 10 min walk from the chateau. It definitely worths a visit!

Fontainebleau

"Don't miss the chance to visit here!"

Fontainebleau was just absolutely incredible.

We are sooooo glad we drove to the other side of Paris to visit this magnificent place. The history, the wealth - it's undeniably compulsive, and will draw you back in time to when the Kings lived here.

Palais de Fontainebleau

by Mobleydcat

"Palais de Fontainebleau"

Napoleon referred to the Palais de Fontainebleau as "the house of the centuries." Many pivotal and decisive events have occurred inside, perhaps none more memorable than when Napoleon stood on the horseshoe-shaped exterior stairway and bade farewell to his shattered army before departing for Elba.

Cutural escapades at Fontainebleau

by Sinjoor

This is one of the courtyards of this magnificent and enormous castle. This one looks out onto the "Etang des Carpes" (The Pond of Carps), which is actually a sizable man-made lake.

Probably one of the most photographed features of the castle is its monumental staircase.

The castle gardens are very extended and provide an intresting visit in themselves. Among the various things to see there are the before mentioned "Etang des Carpes", a man-made grotto and beautifully arranged French gardens.

At the town of Milly-la -Forêt the 525 year old "Halle" dominates the quaint little town square. This is where in old times the market used to be held.

The intricate carpentry is still the original construction.

True craftsmanship to withstand the tooth of time..
