France tourist attractions

by PocketRocket

My boyfriend and I are coming to Paris in Dec 10 / Jan 11. I have been there before and saw most of the major tourist sites in about 3 days but only got to see the city area and Euro Disney. My boyfriend hasn't been to Paris before and I would like him to see all the city sites.

What other areas of France or Paris should we also see and how many days would we need in total?

You don't mention your interests which makes it a bit hard - the Loire valley and chateaux, Avignon, Nice, and in the north - Mont St Michel, Etretat, Honfleur: closer to Paris, Versailles, Chantilly and the historic town of Senlis. I'm sure you haven't seen all that Paris has to offer. There is so much to see. I spent 7 days in France and then 10 days in Paris (still haven't been to the Lovre)and thought I saw a lot but there is still so much to see.

Check out these places on VT as a start. Days needed - how many do you have!

Thanks for the responses. So much to see and not enough time. I will have a look at the VT pages to get a better idea of what it is we want to do and see

I'm a city boy, so I rarely leave the city limits when I travel to a place. I loved The Catacombes. Altho I didn't have time, I had wanted to take a tour of the sewers of Paris (L'egoutes?). As you can see, I like off the beaten path sites and "real" neighborhoods. Paris is made for walking, so take a good pair of sneakers.

Hi Lisa. If you will be there from Dec. 10 to Jan. 11 as your post suggests, keep in mind that daylight hours will be very short and you may have some bad weather . . . as in cold, rain and possibly snow. You also have the Christmas holidays to plan around and things will be closed on Christmas day. On the bright side, there won't be as many tourists and the Christmas decorations are gorgeous. There should be lots of holiday concerts too if you enjoy that sort of thing.

If you want to visit more of France than Paris, you may want to head south just because of the weather. To get an idea of distances, go to the Michelin web site and type in Paris and then the other town you are thinking of visiting, like Nice. It will tell you how far it is and show it on a map so you can get an idea of where you are headed. Then go to the train web site to see if there are convenient connections available. Here are the two web sites:
http://www.viamichelin.com/
http://www.sncf.com/

Here on VT, type in the places that interest you and see what VT members have already written about them. There are lots of Tips and Reviews along with photos and web links that can be a tremendous help to your planning.

You can also click on the name of anyone who answers you here and go to their Home Page. Then check their Travel Pages to see if you can get any ideas from those.

Have fun planning . . . and have a great trip.

'L'As du falafel': famous pita...

by brunitou

'L'As du falafel': famous pita restaurant.
rue des rosiers in the 'Marais' neighboorhood.
A bit victim of it own success but a place to be!
(Vanessa Paradis & Lenny Krevitz went there and many other personns you may find the picture on the walls!:) the great wheel, at Concorde... There removed it :( Really don't know why!

Le Marais

by Klod5

The district of Le marais to preserved its charm and its authenticity. It is with a big pleasure that you will be able to discover the real Parisian life there, as it was already at the last century.

Bread, is an indispensable food to French. Their reputation is not that they eat a piece of bread, cheese and one glass of wine ? The bakeries are therefore the daily space, where the inhabitants of the district meet, every day (because bread consumes itself cool !). One finds there again, of the stores as this one, but I can assure you that they become very rare, of the whole districts having made the object of operations of ' building's promotions ' are, henceforth, disfigured forever.

AMAZING WEBSITE to SEE your way around Paris

by Lady_Mystique

While looking for an apartment to rent in Paris, from where I live here in Canada, I got a great new tip (and my latest TOY!!) from a Parisian e-pal.
This amazing website allows me to type in any Paris address or street name and the map then shows the building (if you have the exact address) and the street as it appears in reality by using PHOTOS!
This certainly makes the task of finding a decent place to live --- without actually being there in person --- MUCH EASIER and less scary.
This task of finding accommodations for a long term stay can be a bit of a gamble if you don't know Paris as well as the locals.

...and HAVE FUN!!!!

You may find the French...

by train

You may find the French somewhat arrogant but bear with it and you will have fun! There is less English spoken than in Germany but stores and public places will usually have someone who speaks some English.

The other big ATP tournament

by chess_machine

The other big ATP tournament is Bercy. Nothing to compare with Roland Garros, since it is an indoor tournament and is played on quick (not clay). Bercy is one of the Master series tournament, which means one of the biggest of the year, which also means you will find excellent players there.

This year it will be held from October 29 to November 6.
