Budget Hotel- Single female traveler

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on February 28, 2005

This was a very average hotel. I'd like to make the disclaimer that I'm a college student, so I'm used to such conditions. I thought this hotel was perfectly acceptable. I'm writing this review for people who aren't used to "roughing" it college-style. European hotels don't provide washcloths, so bring your own. My room was a single and is a little smaller than a NYC single room (which is already very small) The bed could be considered a little hard. I must say, their pillow was a JOKE. It was not a pillow at all, it was a sheet covering some lump that wouldn't support a child's head. The place was clean and the shower pressure/temperature was amazing! (However, after 10 minutes, it started getting a little temperate and the heat was wearing off a bit). There was no alarm clock, so bring your own if you have to make an itinerary schedule. (I brought my own, thankfully). The walls were a bit thin so I could hear the couple next door having 'fun' and a baby down the hall, but again, I'm a college student so it didn't bother me. The one thing I must point out is that there were 2 incidents of bugs. Not roaches (I would know) but a waterbug in the shower and...something else out in the hallway. The keys are funny little keys that took me awhile to figure out (I'm used to marriot card keys). One of the desk attendants was very helpful in teaching me some essential French (ie: Laissez moi tranquille= leave me alone!, Fichez moi la pas= Go away!, Je suis occupe= I'm busy! or Je suis marrie=I'm married!. Very helpful indeed. However, he was hitting on me and after my horrid experience with French men, it was something I was not looking for. (Him and two of the other desk attendants...maybe it's just a French thing). Anyway, this is a good hotel, relatively good area (near a grocery and a few boulangeries (bakeries) and if you go down on rue de Commerce, there's a lot more stuff going on. Be careful at night and use common sense. Enjoy

Directions: Near Metro stops: Commerce, Emile ZOLA, and Cambronne. From CDG, get on the RER. Transfer at St. Michelle for the dark yellow C line (going West) and ride to Invalides, transfer for the purply-line (line 8) towards Balard. Ride 4 stops to Commerce.
