Purchasing a Flat Iron near Champs Elysees

I will be staying at the Hotel Prince de Galles near the Champs Elysees and will be looking to buy a flat iron for my hair. I'm sure that there will be stores to purchase it on the Champs Elysees but I am not sure the names of these stores. Does anybody have any idea? Thank you very much!

Monoprix should have them if you google you should be able to get an address close to you there is a large one Rue d'Opera or is it Blvd??? walking toward the Louvre from the Opera it is one the right about half way!! Good luck..

Have you thought about buying a dual voltage flat iron in the US ? They are cheaper here than in France. That's what I have and it works just fine in both countries.

I used a converter once and I blew out the power in the entire (small) hotel and restaurant next door so I don't want to take the chance this time!

I am not using a converter. A dual-voltage iron works just fine. I use it all the time. Same thing with hair-dryers.

What Jeannette1 is talking about is an appliance that works on either 120 or 240 voltage. You do not need a converter and you will not blow a fuse. Look on the back of the appliance and if you see 120-240 it is dual voltage and you will have no trouble. However, you will need a plug adapter if you buy it in the US because the prongs that fit into the plug are different in France. You can pick those up at the drug store, Target, Walmart or any luggage store.
If you get the appliance in France, you will not need the adapter or the converter so it is one less thing to worry about. Monoprix is probably the least expensive option. http://www.monoprix.fr/Site/Template/ACCUEIL.aspx?SELECTID=1&

Not such an odd idea. In the 1960s there were lots of girls who ironed their hair on an ironing board with a regular steam iron.
BTW Jeannette1, I have 2 ancient cast iron flat irons that belonged to my great-grandmother. They might be a little hard on the hair.

I grew up in what is now called the Flatiron District of New York so that's what I always think of when I see the word flat iron.

Paris Museum Pass

Paris Museum Pass is the most comfortable tool for the visitors willing to see as much museums and monuments as possible.
It gives you free access to more than 60 museums and monuments in Paris and around, without waiting in line for buying the entrance ticket (a really important issue because Paris is a very crowded town).
There are three types of passes, according to the number of days:
- 1-day pass - EUR 18-
- 3-days pass - EUR 36-
- 5-days pass - EUR 52-
(the prices are valid for January 2006 and there is a slight difference between the prices we have found on official sites on Internet, which were lower, and the prices in Paris).
Among the museums and monuments we have visited using our 3-days pass I can count: Arc de Triomphe, Musee de l'Armee, Centre Pompidou, Louvre, Notre-Dame, Musee d'Orsay, Pantheon, Musee Rodin, Sainte-Chapelle, Basilique royale de Saint-Denis.
Sainte-Chapelle

The numerous churches and cathedrals scattered around town, while most are captivating, get kind of dull after seeing the nth one in three days. A good remedy is to make a visit to Sainte-Chapelle, home of some very impressive stained glass. I find it worthwhile to go to the cathedral early in the morning and find a seat and try to figure out the stories of the stained glass. After sitting down for a while, I can notice the sun light is starting to shine in from a slighty different angle. In an hour or so, the light will shift to another panel completely. Seeing different panels of stained glass getting led up by the sun is very interesting.
Hôtel des Invalides and Napoleon tomb

The complex known as the Hôtel des Invalides was founded in 1671 by Louis XIV, the Sun King. He wanted to provide accommodation for disabled and impoverished war veterans. The building was completed in 1676 and housed up to 4,000 war veterans.

Starting in 1676 on request of the Sun King's war minister, the church Saint-Louis was built as an annex to the complex.

The church is connected directly with the Royal chapel, better known as the Dôme des Invalides. In 1840 Louis-Philippe repatriated the remains of the Emperor Napoleon from st. Helena, where he was buried after his death 19 years earlier. The Dôme des Invalides now also houses the tombs of several other military leaders like Turenne, Vauban and marshall Foch.

My only tip is, if you know you're going to have to cross Paris by Metro and you have to change trains, try to take a shoulder bag or rucksack instead of a proper suitcase. There are loads of stairs to climb/ go down and the turnstyles are quite awkward, so it's really not fun dragging/ lifting/ dropping a heavy suitcase all the way.....here speaks the voice of bitter experience!!! One question that appears in the Paris forum all the time is What should I wear? It seems to me that people stress about this loads before they come to Paris when really there is nothing to worry about!
Paris is a Western capital city and like all capital cities you see just about every type of person on the street, from the conservative businessman/woman to the punk revivalist and everything that's inbetween.
No one's going to look twice at you and if they do, so what?!
Other than that just apply your normal common-sense dressing rules you would follow back at home... if you're going to a church, don't wear a micro mini skirt and revealing top...if you're going out to a nice restaurant, don't wear shorts and battered old trainers!
It really is that simple.
Just relax and enjoy your time in Paris! No need. One thing the French are not lacking is Pharmacies!
