We need some advice on transportation options around Paris. We'll be there for 4 days staying near the Eiffel Tower. We plan on one day in Versailles. At the end of our stay we'll be leaving Paris for Chartres where we'll pick up a rental car. I think our hotel is in a central location and we plan on walking a lot. I know we'll still need to use the metro/bus/etc on occassion. I'm confused by the various transportation cards and wondering if we wouldn't be ok just getting tickets as we go. Any suggestions?
pedmar is correct. Don't buy the various passes, instead ask for a carnet of 10 Metro tickets that you can share. You'll have to get a separate ticket on the RER out to Versailles, but that is easy to do.
Enjoy your trip. Sounds like great fun.
The web site you referenced is wonderful! Thanks so much for the information. We'll definitely follow your recommendation. Versailles is a beautiful town, what a great place to call home!
Thanks so much for the input. After a lot of planning we're down to the little details, like this. Now we're just counting the days! Thanks again
In case you don't know this, click on pedmar's screen name above. This will take you to his Home Page on Virtual Tourist. Then click on his Paris Travel Page. He has an amazing amount of information that may help you plan your trip.
Enjoy Paris.
. . . but, Pedro, is the girl's Dad ready? Hope all goes well. If your son is as nice as you, I'm sure it will. 8^)

The most known of Karoling - Charles the Great who created Frank's Empire. In 843 year there was a section of empire on three parts. Western Frank's kingdom has approximately occupied borders of modern France. A following dynasty - Kapetings. They are interested to russians because their blood is diluted Anna Jaroslavna who become the queen of France in 1051 and gave birth the following king with slavic blood - Phillip I.
visit the Byzantine-style Basilica - Sacré-Coeur, located in the heart of a 19th century village of painters, sculptors and poets (Montmartre)! And whilst you're here exploring the beautiful basilica, I'm sure you'd be charmed by the quaint village atmosphere of Montmartre and it's main square, the fabled Place du Tertre!
Just by walking around Paris, it's easy to see why all the great artists came here. Still today, you can find artists from all over the world, painting street scenes of Paris, especially on the Seine, and in Montmarte.
In many cases..Paris needs lots of walk around the city to discover eerything... take the most comfortable shoes and clothes...never forget that it is also walking in some distances even in metro stations.
