Worst hostel ever!

Mediocre service. Facilities and amenities are really old as expected of low budget hostels. I had to extend my stay for one night due to travel interruption with changed train schedule. The women helping me told me they only had a bed in a double room left which roughly costed $65 USD. With no other choice, I said yes despite the price. But when I went to change rooms on the day of the extended night, the lady told me she had booked it for the night prior (of which I had a bed in a dormitary already due to previous online booking). In other words, she double-booked me for my second to last night instead of extending a night -definitely an error on their side. With no other options, the women ended up sticking me into a staff room and charged me an EXTRA 18 Euro for the room telling me that I would need to speak to the manager the next morning about the refunding the double bed. Well, the manager promptly said 'no' and would not admit their fault claiming that I didn't specify what day to extend. HELLO! I'M EXTENDING EXTRA NIGHT! ADD ONE NIGHT TO MY LAST NIGHT! WHAT MORE SPECIFICATIONS COULD I HAVE GIVEN YOU! Absolutely ridiculous service and attitude. Would never return again!

Unique Quality: Breakfast was ok.

Cheapest hostel in Paris

We stayed in that hostel also 2 nights and I have to admit for that price the conditions are just wonderful. its amazing clean and very good place for young students as well as young families with children. Staff very helpful, friendly and charming :) Reception is open 24h so there is no 'curfew' Situated in the heart of the city, near to Notre Dame cathedral, just 20 minutes walking. Hostel is safe, clean and has a very friendly atmosphere.

Unique Quality: Prices are really lowest in whole Paris. The night in hostal cost 15 euro!!! You have bed linens and breakfast included. The check out is at 10 o'clock.

Nice Youth Hostel

I lived in a 3-bed room for 3 nights. There are also two sinks, a mirror and a plug in the room. The beds are not the most comfortable ones but it worths the money.
Breakfast is really simply: Bread+Jam+Butter+Cafe/Chocolat Chaud
Security is good for you have to leave your key to the room at the hostel everytime you go out.

Unique Quality: The most appealing qualities about AIJ are its price (13Euro/night) and its location.

Low-cost hostel

Good hostel, only 17 euros (or less) per night. The rooms and the service are good (considering that it is an youth hostel. If you have to be up for 10 am...so bring an alarm clock or something. 10 am is early when you explore the Parisian nightlife.

Superb hostel!

I stayed at AIJ for 3 nights between July 27th and July 30th 2004 and had a great time. The hostel has around 200 beds and says that there are Ensuite shower/WC in all rooms of 4 beds. I don't know about that though since I had a room of 3 beds. It was just next to the showers on the floor and near the tiolets so no problem at all. I had to wait for 1 person one time for a shower, that's all.

The beds were neither very good nor very poor. I slept well.

The staff was incredibly nice (just think of the italian girl learning swedish and japonese, working at the hostel for the summer...whoa!) and spoke both french and english. Some better english, some worse, but all understandable.

The hostel is locked during night-time and whenever the staff feel a need to for security reasons, but the reception desk is manned 24 hours so you just have to knock and show your room receipt to be let in.

They say breakfast is included in the price and it is, but just tea/coffee/chocolate and a bagel/baguette and some marmelade, so if you want something else you'd better buy it yourself.

Unique Quality: It's ideally situated near the Ledru Rollin metro, but only about 500 metres from the Bastille area and metro, where there are many great pubs and bistros.

It's got a vending machine of cool beverages so you can get a cold beer for just 1 euro when you get home from the pub and sit talk to the other guests.

Staying at this hostel was a great experience, I met so many interesting people, from Quebec, Rio de Janeiro, Japan, China and Spain for example.

The lowest rate I found...

It's an ideal place for backpackers like me, who require just a bed and a shower at the end of a busy travelling day.

I saw many different backpackers in the hostel, very happening.

Unique Quality: - The lowest hostel rate (as in summer 2001)
- clean room and toilet
- popular with backpackers of different nations
- close to metro station
- close to supermarket
- close to different restaurants
- accept internet booking

Cheapest you'll find!

This is the cheapest bed you'll find in Paris! For 13 euro per person you can share a room or have a private room for two people (with shared showers and toilets).

Unique Quality: The hostel does run under rather archaic rules - but what do you expect for 13 euro per night? Lockout is from 10am until 3pm. Breakfast is served from 7am until 9.30am - and that means you must FINISH your breakfast by 9.30! Visitors are not permitted, you must show your receipt at the door to prove that you are a resident and everyone is kicked off to bed at midnight when the "common room" closes. So no late night philosphising with new international friends!
Not great for party animals or those over the age of fourteen really...

A youth hostel

AUBERGE INTERNATIONALE DES JEUNES.
13 Euros breakfast includein Winter, 14 Euros March to October.
Clic on the photograph to have a printable image.

Unique Quality: Very cheap.
Also near to the Opéra Bastille (on the principle, Opéra Garnier is for traditional opera and this one proposes more recent productions), to a nightlife area (rue de Lappe) and to Jardin de l'Arsenal (place de la Bastille).

Auberge internationale des Jeunes

I would like to have some comments about the Auberge internationale des Jeunes on rue Trusseau near the Bastille. I read a lot of bad comments about this hostel on the net but some people still tell me it is good for the price. Does the place have a good reputation in Paris. Does it offer a good service and quality of accomodation.

Please give me your advice.
