2* safe hotel near metro & nice surroundings
I am planning a trip to paris - not now, maybe next May. Have pencilled 2 hotels - anybody been there?

I've stayed at the Hotel Castex in the Marais, the Grand Hotel Levesque on rue Cler in the 7th arr. ( cool little market street near the Eiffel tower) and the Hotel Esmeralda in the Latin Quarter arr. 5. Any of those would be nice and cheap.

I stayed in Hotel du Marais, in the 3rd, 2 star hotel very cheap, well-located, very clean with nice staff! Le Marais is a good area to stay if you want a lively area...

What is your reasons for staying at these two particular hotels? Is it budget? There are other budget choices available. Check the compilation of Paris hotel tips. Also I heard that www.eurocheapo.com is good to find low-budget yet decent hotels.
