Hotel I stayed in Paris 2003
by eduandre about Best Western Axel Opera
I fair hotel in Opera region (rue de Montyon 15).
We found this hotel after an awful experience in another hotel some blocks away the day before(alexandrine opera).
At that time it was a clean hotel, situated in a street you can rate as a quiet one (considering the region - take the inners rooms). We paid 115 euros, breakfast included.
I recommend it for anyone who wants to stay at Opera district. rooms were small but confortable and clean (2003).
Staff were friendly (2003)
At short distance from many attractions and Galeries Laffayette and Printemps.

Has anybody stayed in Hotel Axel Opera? How's the hotel and the location? I know the hotel room is very small, but since the hotel was just renovated, and cleaness is more important for me....

It is a simple hotel but with agreable comfort. It is situated near a living and somehow noisy street but you will take advantage of a certain popular mood of Paris.
Ask www.yahoo.fr for Axel hotel, you will be provided with pictures.

It's a 2 minute walk to either Le Peletier metro (line 7) or Grands Boulevards metro (lines 8 and 9).
For more info on the hotel, plus map of the area around the hotel try this link:

I haven't stayed there personally, but as it's a 3-star I would imagine that it is of a reasonable standard.

I am going to stay in Hotel Axel Opera. Is it a good hotel and good location? How's the neighbourhood? Is it safe at night there?
Thanks

From what I remember of Paris, the area around Gallerie Lafeyette (near to where you are) is quite up market and safe. It's a great location for getting into the centre of the city - Notredame, latin quarter etc.. I was in Paris with my girlfriend and we were very comfortable walking around at night etc. Up towards Montmartre is a dodgy area though...

The Paris hotels use to put in their name the nearest landmark to get more customers.
For the AXEL OPERA, you are lucky, the Opera Garnier is only at 15 mn walk from your hotel.
Galeries Lafayette are at 10 mn.
But you are at 3 mn from the Grands Boulevards which are a night life area. The Musee Grevin (wax museum) is also nearby. It has been recently remodeled (the price also).
If you are fond of antiques, go around and in the auction hall which is rue Drouot/rue Chaussat.
If you are interested in photographes : go at night at the corner of Blvd Haussmann and rue Laffitte you will have a charming view of Sacre Coeur lighted.
