I stayed at AIJ for 3 nights between July 27th and July 30th 2004 and had a great time. The hostel has around 200 beds and says that there are Ensuite shower/WC in all rooms of 4 beds. I don't know about that though since I had a room of 3 beds. It was just next to the showers on the floor and near the tiolets so no problem at all. I had to wait for 1 person one time for a shower, that's all. The beds were neither very good nor very poor. I slept well. The staff was incredibly nice (just think of the italian girl learning swedish and japonese, working at the hostel for the summer...whoa!) and spoke both french and english. Some better english, some worse, but all understandable. The hostel is locked during night-time and whenever the staff feel a need to for security reasons, but the reception desk is manned 24 hours so you just have to knock and show your room receipt to be let in. They say breakfast is included in the price and it is, but just tea/coffee/chocolate and a bagel/baguette and some marmelade, so if you want something else you'd better buy it yourself.
It's ideally situated near the Ledru Rollin metro, but only about 500 metres from the Bastille area and metro, where there are many great pubs and bistros. It's got a vending machine of cool beverages so you can get a cold beer for just 1 euro when you get home from the pub and sit talk to the other guests. Staying at this hostel was a great experience, I met so many interesting people, from Quebec, Rio de Janeiro, Japan, China and Spain for example. | | | | Lenox-montparnasse: A good hotel in Montparnasse with air conditioning Compare Rates NEW! | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
This is another clean, comfortable and affordable little hotel on rue Delambre in Montparnasse, just a few streets south of St. Germain and Jardin Luxembourg. Lenox has a comfortable lobby, a very nice and cozy private bar I have visited on more than one occasion, and all the usual comforts of the hotels on my favorite rue Delambre "stroll." The hotel staff in both the lobby and bar have always been friendly, helpful, and professional with me whether I was staying there or at another hotel up the street. Hotel Lenox is also a "WiFi hotspot" Paris WiFi map for laptop luggers. Hotel Lenox is situated on my favorite rue Delambre, a charming and historic street in Montparnasse that is just a few steps from Dome, Rotunde, Rosebud (one of my favorite little cocktail bars in Paris), Select, etc. all the great cafes and bistros of Montparnasse and Paris history. In 1921 when Man Ray's friend and Dadaist, Marcel Duchamp, left for New York, Man Ray set up his first studio at l'Hôtel des Ecoles at no. 15 rue Delambre, which is now the Lenox. André Breton lived here also. Many of the early surrealists in the 1920s (the "Mad Years" Années Folles) made the cafes of Montparnasse/rue delambre their hangout and home. Check out the book: "Man Ray's Montparnasse" by Herbert R. Lottman for an excellent historical review on this great little section of Paris. Click here to see it ISBN: 0810943336 Hotel Lenox is close to metro stop Vavin and also Edgar Quinet, an excellent location that allows me to get to anywhere in Paris quickly. Check out the hotel website, it has much information and pictures. Lenox Montparnasse
What makes Hotel Lenox Montparnasse stand out and worthy of attention is that it is one of the few hotels on rue Delambre that has air conditioning, at rates that special-offer between approx. 100-135 Euros/night. That is in my experience not a steal, but acceptable for Paris hotels. The historic Montparnasse location, 2 close Metro stops (Vavin & Edgar Quinet) and the reasonable price also make it worth considering.
