 | Paris Reviews | Tips 81 - 90 of 1914 | | Hotel de l'Esperance is one of the better hotels I've stayed in while visiting Paris. We stayed here for four nights over New Year's Eve 2004 and again for New Year's 2005. It's in a good location in the 5th arrondissement, very near Rue Mouffetard, and not far from the Latin Quarter and Montparnasse. The Mouffetard area is one of the hidden gems of Paris and once you discover it you'll keep coming back to see more. The lady in charge of the place is quite a character and the rest of the staff were very friendly. The rooms were very warm and had shower or bath, as well as a television showing plenty of channels. Most were French though we also had BBC and CNN. Our room was smaller the second time we stayed here though it was still fine. Price for a double with bath is 86 Euro while a double with shower is 78 Euro. Leave a Comment

You get what you pay for (i.e. not much in terms of comfort). The towels had so many holes, it was hard to dry yourself...assuming you could take a shower...the shower head holes were plugged by carbonates (took me half an hour to unplug each hole with a pin)...the sink was plugged too (got fixed with Drano as soon as I complained), and the beds were not very comfortable, and, yes, I almost forgot, the closet fell on me when I tried to open it!!. Anyway, it is clear, you go to this hotel because it is cheap and well located, period. Make sure you spend most of your Paris trip away from your room! The breakfasts were nice (baguette, butter, jam, coffee, tea or chocolate), sometimes entertained by the talkative owner, around a big round table on the first floor.
21 rooms, 4 with shower and toilet Rooms at less than 50 euros Rates include breakfast Credit Cards Not Accepted Very popular, make sure you make reservations several months in advance! This is a very simple, inexpensive hotel in the heart of the Latin Quarter of Paris. The rooms are nothing fancy but if you're looking just for a cheap place to crash for the night, you probably won't find a better value. It's on a quiet street, so there is not any street noise, but since it is an old building, you can hear your neighbors, and the sounds of people walking up and down the stairs can keep you awake at night. The owners are friendly and accomodating. I would only recommend- bring shower shoes and a pillow... other than that, it was great.
It is in a great location in Paris... 2 minute walk to Musee de Cluny and just a 10 minute walk to the Louvre and Notre Dame. | | | | Regina Hotel: A Tribute to the FALL in Paris........
Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
During our *million dollar* stroll through les grands boulevards of Paris, and as we approached the famous "Statue de Jeanne d'Arc," we stumbled upon the famous Hotel Regina. Coined as the first of three Parisian luxury hotels created by Leonard Tauber and Constant Baverez, the "Regina" was built on the former site of the Louvre's royal carousel. More significant to us was that it was featured in one of the most famous scenes in Eric Schaeffer's Indie film, "Fall." One of the film's most heart-wrenching scenes takes place when the tenacious main character pursues his beloved muse all the way to Paris...........where there he finds her leaving the Hotel Regina, hand in hand, with her husband. From across the Place des Pyramides she spots him, they share a glance, and she can feel his heart breaking as the narration of "Shiver's" poetry to Sarah plays in the films background: "I know you would never fly a million miles just to see me smile at you. Someday maybe, but not today. So I guess I better disappear, Sarah. I know you'll be okay, and soon I will be too. And maybe, just maybe, if god so desires, a day will come when, as friends, we will find ourselves accidentally strolling along the white cliffs of Dover, or the mountain rocks of Mendocino, or the bonnie, emerald north of the Scottish seaboard........ .......or the glistening harbor of old New York, and from the heights, in the stars, among the angels whose arms will cradle us, in a moment neither of us was told about but knew like our oldest happiness, we will look into each other's eyes and know....it is today. It is today. And whether that day is tomorrow, or next week, or next year, or next lifetime...... .....I will finally get to tell you to your sweet face. The face I will miss more than I could ever tell, that......I love you. And you'll smile wryly, close your eyes, say 'catch me baby'.........and fall." *Goose pimples.* Leave a Comment Theme: HotelPrice: US$180 and up » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: 2, Place de Pyramides 75001 FrancePhone: 33 0 1 42 60 31 10

Single room with a sink : 30Euros (tax include) - With shower and/or for two : 50 Euros. Breakfast : 6 euros per capita The hotel is simple but clean. It has no website : its fame is sufficient to have clients all the year.
In the center of Paris, in a quiet street, near les Halles at 5 mn walk from Rue Montorgueil and Les Halles (see the travelogue). The street has several cheap restaurants and you can find a supermarket (Marché U) and a lot of food shops in Rue Montorgueil. I thought it was opened the year round. I recently discover it is closed between Christmas and New Year. BUT ITS MAIN QUALITY LIES IN ITS PRICE. Very nice little hotel, very clean and quiet. The owner, originally from ex-Yougolavia, is matron-like but really nice. Well located near rue Mouffetard which is narrow and very typical of the old Paris. There is a fun market taking place there on Sunday mornings. Lots of students around during school year as lots of schools and colleges are located in this district, Quartier Latin.
Call for reservations. You might also be able to reserve this hotel through the internet hotel reservation companies. Breakfast is not included in the price and costs 6 euros.
