Great Central Location

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for 2004 New Years. The room we stayed at was small but it was very neat and clean. As most European hotels are, the room and bathroom were small and the elevator and hallways were smaller but we were happy with the location. We were a block from two metro stops, which was our main transportation to all of the sites in Paris. We never ate the breakfast because we wanted to try as many different cafe's as possible. We also got a great deal on this hotel, which is conveniently located next to the trendy shopping district. My wife was excited about that.

Near Place de Madeleine and Opera

Like most Paris hotels, the difference between two and three stars seems to be that three star hotels have a nicer lobby. Our room was small, but clean. The bathroom was modern and the rest of the hotel has been retrofitted as well. The continental breakfast that was included in the price was nice, and traditionally Parisian. Plus there is a very nice little Salon de The just down the Rue Duphot if your a coffee fiend. The Place de Concorde, Louvre, Tulieries, Opera, Madeleine and Champs Elysess are all in easy walking distance. The metro stop at Madeleine is about 100 yards from the hotel. It was about a 5 minute walk to catch the CDG-Roissy bus back to the airport (next to Opera). On the downside, the hotel staff forgot my wake-up call on the day I was leaving.

Unique Quality: Centrally located, comfortable, nice bar/ lobby/ restaurant.

Hotel Burgundy

Unique Quality: It is very reasonably priced, especially considering the location-- in an area bordered by Rue St. Honore, Place de la Madeleine, Rue Royale, and the Place Vendome. There is a Metro station at the end of the street. We had a large spacious room on the fifth floor, with an equally spacious bathroom. (The elevator, however, is very small.)

Millennium Memories of Paris

by KathyW

Above, our daughter Kelly (age 6), the flooded Seine, and the fabulous Eiffel Tower. The next night it would shimmer with lights, watched by millions around the world-- and the Wood Family in Paris.

I've visited Paris three times-- and long to go again! I spent three days in Paris in December 1991 with two friends (before I got married). Then in 1994 I returned with my husband and our 14-month old daughter. We stayed a week and rented a small apartment on the Right Bank.

But the trip we'll remember most was just a few months ago. We arrived in Paris by train late on the evening of December 29-- three of the many visitors arriving for the Millennium celebration. We had a great hotel (the Hotel Burgundy) very conveniently located on the Right Bank and thoroughly enjoyed our four nights and three days in Paris. We arrived three days after the terrible storms that caused such awful damage, especially at Versailles. Yes, it was very crowded-- we gave up on the lines at the Musee d'Orsay and Notre Dame. The Eiffel Tower was closed for security. The River Seine was flooded and the famous Bateaux Mouche were not operating. And on top of that, it poured down rain on the afternoon of the 30th. But we had a WONDERFUL memorable time, capped off by the midnight celebration welcoming the new year/decade/century/millennium. We observed as part of an enormous crowd at the Place de la Concorde, all eyes fixed on the Eiffel Tower! Bonne Annee!

First Time in Paris - Hotel Question

by SweetiePF

We will be staying at the Hotel Burgundy
8 Rue Duphot
Paris 75001
France

Does anyone know about this hotel? What is the area like that it is in?

You can find reviews of this hotel by doing a Google search. It's a very good location, but it sounds like the rooms are small (like most Parisian hotels) and the bathrooms the same.

The hotel is located in one of the most wealthy areas of Paris : La Madeleine.
The hotel is luxious and expensive, with a years 20 style.
Nearby, there are :
- place de la Madeleine with the famous groceries Fauchon and Hediard, and several interesting shops (trufles, caviar, wine, cameras)
- the ticketing which is place de la Madeleine
- rue du fbg St Honore : the fashionable stores (to see aonly because they are very expensive
- rue Royale and the best chocolates and macarons of Paris : Ladure
- Place de la Concorde withe the 2 fountains (one is in remodling yet) and the Obelisque.
- Hotel Crillon (place de la Concorde) : where the treaty creating USA was signed.
- Palais de l'Elysee : the Chirac's home
and more and more

It isn't cheap, but tripadvisor.com gives it rave reviews...
