by TJ5573

Does anyone have any tips?

I haven't been myself yet(saving it for a special occasion!) but I have heard good things about Le Grand Colbert and it always looks beautiful whenever I pass by. 2 Rue Vivienne.

If you like south-west-french cooking, i can recommend Au Dauphin - 167 rue Saint Honoré

Budget is very importan to mention when talking about restaurant or hotel. If you don't have budget limit, and you want something exceptional, the dinner of your life, go for the Grand Vefour at Palais Royal: http://www.relaischateaux.com/en/search-book/hotel-restaurant/vefour/
I like also Passage 53, passage des panoramas, north of the jardins du palais royal, between 45€ to 80€ per person. Their chief is japanese but his training is very french so you have a mix of both culture.
Le Celadon, rue daunou, menu between 50 to 65€; lobster, hare, typical french cuisine high class
Aux Lyonnais, rue saint marc, old style, old furniture but excellent cuisine from Lyon, capital of Gastronomy, around 35/40€

Looking for a nice hotel near The Louvre

by GraceH

Hi,

I've been in Paris several times but have always wanted to stay near The Louvre. Any ideas for nice hotels there that are reasonably priced (not more than 120 dollars, more or less)?

Thanks!
Grace

Have a look at Hotel Timhotel Louvre, nice hotel just near Le Louvre...I think it could be in your budget...http://www.h-louvre.com It is a 2 stars hotel and it is really clean and nicely decorated. It is also at walking distance from Chatelet, a very lively area I particularly love.
have a nice trip in Paris!

Second hand clothes flea market in Paris--- LES PUCES on friday ???????

by armie888

If I go to Les Puces on friday , will I see used clothing like chanels?
I was advise to go when they are unpacking, but I want to be sure I'm going to get something there.

Thanks again! Muah!

I love that place, too, Pedro. Also, I would try Reciproque--it's almost always the first place I go when I get there. Endless racks of second-hand designer clothes.

Have a great time!

Courtney - I too was going to suggest Reciproque. It is in the 16th and covers three different storefronts. Don’t miss it.

Also, at Palais Royal there is Didier Ludot - one shop of his is all little black dresses! And in St-Germain-des-Prés there is Ragtime (rue de l’Echaudé) They have items from as far back as the 1800’s through to the 80’s (horror!) but they aren’t cheap.

You might have some luck at Puce de Vanves (my favourite flea market in Paris) but it is only Saturday and Sunday.

Happy hunting!

Yeah, I could stay for HOURS in Reciproque!!!

Travel Tips for Paris

by sheryl_tan

Take a ferry cruise along the Seine River. The first thing we did in Paris was the 1 hour ferry cruise along the Seine River. Beautiful buildings line both sides of the banks. Passing through many bridges, including the Alexandra Bridge, we also get to see the Effiel Tower, the Notre Dame during the ferry cruise. If you can, try the cruise agin in the late evening when the city is lighted up. I'm not going to miss this the next time I visit Paris!

enjoy les Invalides in B&W for a change!

by morgane1692

One of the first places I'd take a Paris newcomer would be Les Invalides here, home of Napolean and his myriad of tombs, a fabulous armory and artilleries museum, and massive amounts of ambience...enough for a repeat visit even. So there!

lingua franca, as it were

by odysseus_23

i have heard people say condescendingly that its not really essential to speak french in paris, as most people speak english.. yeah well, we would not like it if they came into our country and started rattling off in french either. it is nice to preface every query with excusez moi-m'sieur/madame, parlez vous anglais?? they then open up a whole lot more and are a truly friendly and helpful people.i really dont know much of francais- but i frenchified a lot of english words and got a lot of amused looks, but they really appreciated the fact that i made the effort and were very tolerant of my guaranteedly stupendous errors.it helps to have a laugh at oneself , once in a while too.

Street performances

by MedioLatino

The huge number of tourists attract the street performances as well. My favourite was the "Frightening guy in the mask", who followed girls near Notre Dame and tried to frighten them by taking their hands slighly from the back.

However, he was a very good guy. He avoided older ladies and kids, and whatever happened he took off the mask and helped to clear the situation. He even got a kiss from a girl who fainted, after life returned in her :)

Research, research, research

by whosyercc

Visit "Pere Le Chaise" and "Mont Parnasse" Cemeteries, but do some research before you go.
Read and find out about some of the people who are buried here.
Colette, Oscar Wilde, Balzac, Moliere, Gertrude Stein, Chopin, and so many more.
Read their books, listen to their music, it makes the tour of the cemeteries so much more meaningfull.
If you don't have time to research before, research after, write down the names of people you have heard of but are not familiar with.
Fabulous way to broaden your horizons.
