At the last minute I changed from the hotel I had booked in the 10th near the Gare du Nord to this hotel, most of the reviews I heard of the area around the Gare du Nord said that it wasn't wise to wander around too late in the area especially if it was just females traveling. The rate for this hotel was slightly less than the one I had reserved, 109E per night on booking.com. This area of Paris is just on the edge of the Marais district, it took us about 15 minutes to walk to Notre Dame and there were several metro stations within walking distance.
Our room wasn't ready when we checked in, they have a locked room where you can store your bags but as other guests have access, make sure you take your valuables out. You can also leave them there if you need to upon checkout.
The Breguet Sabin stop on the orange/5 line was the closest metro station and if you took the Rue Saint-Sabin exit you could see the hotel after walking about 50 feet. From the Gare du Nord we didn't have to transfer lines. The Bastille stop and the Chemin Vert stop are also nearby.
Unique Quality: A no frills hotel, the only benefit was free wifi which worked in my room the 1st day and then stopped so I had to use it in the lobby. The walls were a bit thin and there were school groups both nights, when they used the stairs it sounded like a herd of elephants. In the morning, I woke to the sound of them having breakfast in the courtyard beneath our room.
The beds were comfortable enough, I reserved a twin and got a twin. Not as small as some Parisian hotel rooms but not much in the way of charm or decor. Reminded me a bit of the Ibis chain or a dorm room, Campanile has several locations in Paris so make sure you know which one you are booking.
Breakfast was not included so we skipped it, on the way to Notre Dame, we passed a lot of patisseries and places to have breakfast for less than the rate at the hotel.
Directions: In the 11th, Breguet Sabin, Chemin Vert or Bastille stop
Oh well i'm a fan of Campanile hotels, so what to say, polite staff, inexpensive (30 eur / night, 3 star hotel), and near city center and metro stops!
Ohh... we had asked our tour manager to let our luggage straight be transported to our room and one of the bags was there and other was not when we arrived. A tourist's nightmare. Kept on asking for 3-4 hours to the staff and they were not responding. Then when I gave them some stern legal warning and stuff they started searching. NOT GOOD NOT GOOD... so arrogant were people.
