Smoking in Paris
Bonjour. I'm planning a trip to London and Paris in early October. I haven't been to your lovely city in 20 years and am most eager to return. I'm a smoker (no lectures please; I've heard them all) and would like to know about smoking policies in Paris, particularly in hotel rooms. Do most hotels offer smoking/non smoking rooms? Thank you for any information/tips you can offer.

Hi, last time I went to Paris (October) I stayed at hotel Europe St. Severin and had a smoking room. It was a bit hard to find a hotel that allows smoking. I think the Best Western chain also has smoking rooms. Hope this helps.

It depends on the hotel. Some have a no smoking policy and some don't and this can change anytime. Just make sure that you hotel offers smoking rooms before booking.
I stayed at the Hotel Cardinal Rive Gauche last time I was in Paris (last January) and they did have smoking rooms.

I just came back from Paris 2 weeks ago. I am not a smoker. Smoking is completely illegal in all restaurants (there are no segregated smoking sections, ie at the bar, etc.) as well as on all parts of the Metro. As far as I know, there is no such thing as a "smoking" hotel room. You see all the smokers on the street now.

This is just to say, we were there in November and although I am not a smoker, I noticed smoking everywhere and it is no big deal. Not like here where so many are judgmental. It is refreshing to find tolerance. In fact, my friends did not in any way deter their friends from smoking in their apartments...even though they themselves were nonsmokers. I was impressed with their tolerance...their sense of putting friends before judgment! Very, very refreshing. People smoked on the streets, etc. So, relax and enjoy this wonderful city.

I may be wrong but I thought it was now illegal to allow smoking in a hotel within the EU, as it is classified as a place of work
