Hotel room was tiny, bedding and furniture worn and dirty. Room smelled and housekeeping sprayed fragrance to hide mold oder. Free internet was shut down by outside vender, staff continued to lie about its availablity for the duration of my stay. After many inquiries, they finally quit lying and admitted they no longer had wireless, and refused to correct or relocate me. TV remote did not work. Staff did quit lying about the many problems, but never made good on their service failings. Bed had a lightswitch and bare bulb in headboard, everytime anyone moved a pillow the light flashed on and off. Lamp shade long broken and gone. Shower was tiny and had mold, toilet leaked all night. Non smoking room had cigarette burns and smells.
Dark smelly unclean room, and unhelpful staff. Neighborhood seems to be the afro hair styling center of Paris.
Comfort Hotel Gare de l'Est: Hotel within walking distance of Gare de l'Est

The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from Gare de l'Est...a straight shot down the street from the station. The hotel is located in kind of a dumpy neighborhood. The hotel itself and the rooms are clean and there is an elevator. The rooms are very small, even by European standards, but efficient enough. There is no hair dryer in the room. You can request one at the front desk and hope that the 3 they have are not being used by someone else! I would recommend asking for a room in the back of the hotel. Our first night, we stayed in the front of the hotel. We heard people being buzzed into the hotel all night long and all the chatter from the people who were hanging out on the street. We moved to the back for the 2nd night and it was very quiet. Breakfast is included in the price.
Directions: With your back to the train station and ticket office, cross the street and keep walking straight down the main street (Blvd De Strasbourg) for about 10 minutes. The hotel is on the right hand side of the street.
It's probably not the best place to stay in but it's comfortable and clean enough altho' the rooms look tired esp. the bathrooms. It's near Gare de L'Est and there are 2 Metro stations where you can connect in almost attractions in Paris.I would stay here again. Metro: St. Denis Strasbourg and Chateau d' Eau
