Buying Jewelry In Paris Near Eiffel Tower

by Larcin10

Hi,
My Girlfriend and i will be visiting Paris for the day during a 9 1/2 hr layover on a return trip from the UK.

We plan to head straight from CDG airport via the train/subway to the Eiffel Tower and then have lunch at an outdoor restaurant either nearby or near the Notre Dame stop. (open to suggestions here for something close to a subway terminal)

I want to pick up a piece of Jewelry somewhere near the tower and give it to her while at the top of the tower.

The tricky part of this is, she will be by my side the entire time. Can anyone recommend a jewelry store or service that would allow me to order by phone or online, and then allow me to discreetly pick it up when i arrive? Maybe even a courier service that could deliver it to the airport or a local hotel?

Im open to suggestions and maybe im just better off not surprising her and just drop into a shop and pick something out together. Not as romantic, but maybe more practical.
Im open to suggestions.
Thanks

If this piece of jewellery is, indeed, an engagement ring, then it would be so much more romantic to keep it as a surprise. The Eiffel tower has seen many such events! Can't you purchase the ring in the UK (your home country?) before heading off on your trip and keep it hidden until you need it? This is also good if it needs to be re-sized later. Not sure I would want any shop sending/delivering a ring to an airport or hotel. You must get the size right and know the type of setting she prefers. Good luck.

I agree. Buy it (whatever it is) before you leave.

Remember the possibility of flight or airport delays may throw all your plans into confusion. If you have the jewellery to hand, that need not matter.

Well its not an engagement ring yet, more of a promise ring.
For the sizing issue that was mentioned, ill have to swipe a ring from her house somehow if i dont take your suggestion to buy it here in the US.

We will be vacationing in the UK for 2 weeks and the layover in Paris is on our way home to the US.

If i cant manage to "swipe" one of her rings and still want something purchased in Paris, then it'll have to be a bracelet or necklace of some sort. Im not so sure if sending her alone to the Eiffel tower while i go to the bathroom trick will work.
Thank you all for your replies.

If you can't "borrow" a ring from her home, just try it on your fingers until you find the closest fit and use that finger when buying the new ring as a guide to the size. Apologies for jumping the gun - I'm a romantic at heart!

Travel Tips for Paris

Le Marais - Rue Vieille de Temple

by yooperprof

When I visited Paris in the summer of 1991, I stayed with grad school friends Louisa and Freddie. They had a flat on the fourth floor of this apartment block in the Marais district. It was a great district to be in: full of fashionable people and somewhat "gai", close to the synagogues of the old Paris ghetto, with bakeries and bars around the corner.

One thing I didn't like: it was early July, and hot. We had to keep the windows open all night long - and the traffic noise from the streets below never died down completely.

Besides being a huge metro station, Les Halles is also a big shopping mall. Several high street stores can be found here, together with galleries, eateries and a nice outside garden area. I just like the architecture.

Les Crêpes !!!

by djou_box

for Epyphanie or for Mardi Gras, we eat cr?pes !
if you don't go to Bretagne eat real crepes made by bretons (you call it galette when it's salt paste, with sarazin flour), you can still try crepes in many places and sit in a park to eat them or go in crepes restaurants.
most famous is "la compl?te" : ham, cheese, egg
most loved by girls : "crepe au Nutella", my favorite too - and also crepe with sugar, simple - not the same as "crepe au chocolat"
(you can go in any french shop and buy a pot of Nutella (milk chocolate and nut paste) as a souvenir !!!) http://www.nutella.fr/
here is the recepie for crepes :

PlAN DE PARIS MAP IS THE BEST!

by thinking

This is a magical little map book, sort of like a teeny-tiny Mapsco of Paris. Each page has ALL the streets of each arrondissement, which number 1 through 20. You have an index of streets as well as metro, bus and some suburban train maps, too. You'll probably have several sizes/versions to chose from. Pick one up at your neighborhood newsstand or Monoprix for about 4-7 euros ($5-$9).
