Cheap, basic, clean , ensuite rooms
The Etap Hotel Paris La Villette is on Avenue Jean Jaures in the 19th arrondissement. When we stayed there in 2005 we found the area interesting if slightly run down but certainly seemed safe at the time. It is situated between 2 metro stations minutes away. The hotel is modern and functional, a bit nondescript, but for a price of 53€ per room without breakfast (up to 64€ on the odd occasion), it's price that's the main attraction. We are not great fans of Etap or Ibis breakfasts which we feel are overpriced and not very good. However, there were a number of cafés around for early morning coffee and a small supermarket next door for fruit etc. The hotel is close to the Canal St Martin, which is a lovely walk on a nice sunny day. Around the hotel were cafés and small shops and it is not far from Place Stalingrad.

Helpfulness
Accor hotels in and around Paris
Unique Quality: It's good way to find a hotel corresponding to your budget and location.
You'll have a choice :
Sofitel Novotel Mercure Ibis Etap hotel Formule 1
Sofitel hotels are the most expensive. Etap hotels and Formule 1 are the cheapest.
I have booked my hotel via web site and no problems. I tried Holiday Inn and Etap Hotel. Usually they do not charge on CC. Once you check in then they ask for the mode of payment. They keep the details of the card incase you do not turn up. or cancel late.
Check if the site is Thwate/verisign protected.
Have a nice trip. Ease

looking for a bargain...
by sachara about Les Puces (Flea Markets)
If you like to stroll around at markets or are looking for a bargain. Paris has some flea markets, where you can find second hand goods, but new goods as well. Bargaining is part of the job and of course of the fun.
Not far from the Place de Bastille is the Marché au Puces d´Aligre (Place d´Aligre). I visited this rather small and cosy market only once. Other markets are Marché aux Puce de la Porte Vanves (metro Port de Vanves) and Marché aux Puces de Montreuil (metro Port de Montreuil).
The largest flea market of Paris or even of Europe is the Marché aux Puces de St-Ouen (metro Port Clignacourt). This market with about 2500 stalls grouped in 10 market areas is founded in the late 19th century. At sundaymorning I even saw stalls in the street of my Etap-hotel (close to the Port Saint Ouen). You name it .... antiques, all types of second hand goods, clothes, bags and much more.

Best location for stay?
by kennyboi
Which area would be a nice neighbourhood to stay that is close to attractions, close to metro station and not as expensive as those in city centre? Budget around 50E to 70E a night for 2 with ensuite 1-3 stars. Thanks

I'm going in Paris from Belgium 1 month ago and I found flat less expensive than hostel and with kitchen and all services free (web...) : 75 € / night. look "monpiedaterre" at google search.
I think the flat is "Design Marais".
If it's possible, I advise you to reserve in Paris center, you can really enjoy Paris

There are more upmarket areas but to get a room for less than 70€ you may have to settle for a less central area. I would advise that you stay within the periphique (arrondissements 1-20) and near a metro station (which is almost anywhere within the periphique). We are great fans of the Butte aux Cailles near Place d'Italie. Have a look at my pages for information. Enjoy your trip to Paris. Bruce

Do Laumière or Jaurès metro stations serve Hotel Paris La Villette?
I was thinking of an Ibis hotel in Brochant for roughly the same price. Which location is more convenient?
