Simple/comfortable hotel-outstanding location

I stayed twice at the Familia Hotel.

Single room- was on the back of the building. Rather small, but average for Paris.
Double room- spacious, light, comfortable.

The hotel is a real find in Paris, more than anything else, because of its location in the Latin Quarter. You are literally walking distance from Notre Dame and access to all the tourist sights. It also has a very nice neighborhood feel. There is a convenience store, bakery, food mart and plenty of restaurants/bistros nearby.

The hotel serves continental breakfast, though the American diner down the street, Breakfast in America is a far better option if you find yourself thinking continental breakfasts are just too small.

Make sure to ask for a room facing Rue des Ecoles. My room didn't have a balcony, but was nice and light and not very noisy at all.

Room was comfortable and clean and I slept just fine. TV and phone in room
The single room was too small. The double room was more than acceptable.

I would definitely stay there again and have recommended it to friends who stayed there and enjoyed it.

Unique Quality: Getting there- the hotel provides a detailed explanation of how to get there from the airport on the train/subway, which will leave you about a block away. Even on my first visit to Paris, this explanation was more than adequate to get there. However, unless you have a lot of bags, it is probably easier to just get off at St. Michel/Notre Dame and just walk a couple of blocks.

Staff is friendly and very helpful. Housekeeping did a nice job. they are owned by the same people that own the hotel next door, so if they don't have room they will send you to the Minerva, which is a bit more expensive due to higher star rating.

More than anything else the location is superb. When i was there there was no internet in house- you could use the game place a block away or an internet cafe a few blocks up Rue Monge. Transportation was easy walking distance. Lots of sights nearby-the Notre Dame, The Pantheon, Latin Quarter, Monde Arabe museum,etc- but great transportation links to all the other sights

Nice little hotel in a good location

Looking for hotels under 100 Euros per night in Central Paris is quite difficult but Familia Hotel is one of them and it was fine. The location is great, just off Blvd St. Germaine and a couple of blocks from Notre Dame. The first night we were lucky to have gotten a room with a small balcony. That was the best way 'cause it gave us an opportunity to sit and watch the Paris street scene below. Switching to the regular room without the balcony was fine, though. It was clean. Breakfast was included and the help was friendly and English-speaking.

Unique Quality: Location. Location. Location. Familia is close to the Jussieu Metro stop. The pink line runs to major monuments which made it super easy. If you can afford to pay for the room with a balcony, do it. It's maybe 15 or 20 Euros more, but it might be worth it. Watch out for the weird shower door.

Sweet and modest

The hotel has a great location and is close to a metro stop. The staff is wonderful, very helpful. The rooms are small and quaint but you are in Paris..you should be outside experiencing the city.

Unique Quality: Ask for a room with a balconey. The higher up you are, the less street noise you will hear.

More about Familia Hotel

Lovely hotel in the Latin Quarter

by TripAdvisor Member McDocEdmontonCanada

Inexpensive quad rooms are hard to find in Europe (for our family of four) and we were very pleased with our stay at this hotel. The room was small, but well-appointed; the staff were friendly and helpful, and the location excellent. There are lots of good restaurants nearby and we never felt unsafe in this part of Paris. Internet access is nearby.

Didn't Like It At All

I just read some of these reviews again, and I wonder whether these people stayed at the same hotel I did! Relying on the great reviews from this site, my husband and I decided to stay here for a few days in May. I expected the teeny room, but I didn't expect the hotel to be so filthy. Our room had a horrible stench that smelled like a cross between mildew and insecticide. The bathroom corners were dirty, and the shower leaked all over the bathroom floor. The bedspread had huge stains and was ripped in several places. We stayed in one of the "better" rooms with a balcony and paid the equivalent of $140 per night. My father-in-law was in Paris at the same time and spent $160 per night for a MUCH better hotel. Next time, we'll spend the extra few dollars.

Good location - good value

After reading reviews of this hotel here, I booked for 1 night at the end of July 2004. I wasn't disappointed at all. It's a typical Parisan family run hotel. Very quaint. For the price, it was great. Location was just a few blocks from Latin Corner and Notre Dame. If you bring your walking shoes, the Louve is only about 15 minute walk. The room was sparse but very clean and our patio overlooking the city was great for morning coffee. Nothing fancy, but I would stay there again. The staff were friendly and spoke English and the breakfast was fine. For a 3 star hotel in France, thumbs up.

Quintessential Parisian hotel

by TripAdvisor Member AliceL

We stayed at the Familia Hotel in June 2004 for 4 nights and found it to be very elegant and charming. It is located in the middle of the Latin Quarter and the nearby streets are fascinating with their little cafes, boulangeries and shops. It is an easy walk from attractions such as The Pantheon, Luxembourg Gardens and Notre Dame. The hotel rooms are small but if you get one with a balcony it seems like a perfect Paris experience. The breakfast room was typically Parisian hung with tapestries. The breakfast was included and the food was good. Highly recommend the hot chocolates! Staff were very friendly and helpful and all spoke English. Would stay there again.

Just fine

Yes it's cheap with a great location but the rooms are like shoe boxes and the staff is uptight. The top floor rooms are a better value and skip the breakfast--there are better options just down the street.
