Russian food shop in Paris

by BlackIsis

Hi there friends,
I am trying to locate a Russian food shop I found once in Paris but can't remember where it is. It was a very smart shop in an upmarket district, long narrow shop, on a corner, large windows down the side, selling very nice smoked salmon, vodka, caviar etc. Any clues would be helpful, thankyou.

When I walked Paris I saw two Russian food shops. They seem to be a chain. The map of the stores is at:http://www.gastronomierusse.com/fr/addresses

Giving a list of Russian food shops in UK is hardly helpful when OP was asking for Russian food shops in PARIS!

Besides the chain of Russian food shops in Paris, France, I am giving the website for Petrossian in Paris which has a photo of their shop on home page:

I can't be specific but my guess would be that it may be near the Russian church, Saint Alexandre Nevsky in the 8th arrondissement which is quite upscale. We walked around the area a couple of years ago and I seem to recall seeing a number of Russian shops and restaurants near the church.

I would have suggested near St. Alexandre Nevsky too. It is in the 8th arrondissement so look at the web sites give you above and try to find a store with a postal code ending in 08 which indicates the 8th district, as in 75008.

There are several nice Russian restaurants, the church and galleries featuring Russian art so it's a good bet there will be food stores there.

Good luck.

Gastronomie Russe has a location in 8th and is less than one mile to the Cathédrale Saint-Alexandre-Nevsky de Paris.

Travel Tips for Paris

Cafe Society

by garridogal

All over Paris there are cafes and restaurants with outdoor tables which always seem to be busy. I guess Parisiens never eat at home and who can blame them? Would I rather look at the walls of my apartment or the bustling streets of Paris while eating? No!

You can help yourself to an open table without asking to be seated. You can eat if you want or just have drinks or coffee and dessert - whatever you wish.

Ladies, keep an eye on your handbags. Pickpockets also don't like to eat at home, apparently!

FIREWORKS BY THE NOTRE-DAME

I think I can justifiably say that my first visit to Paris was pretty well timed.
Parisians were celebrating the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Paris from
German occupation during WWII. The fireworks at the Notre-Dame Cathedral on 25th August 1994 marked the day's festivities to a really spectacular end.

Dialing from the U.S.

by BeatChick

If you're dialing from the US to a phone number in Paris you'll need to dial:
011-33 –1
then the number

If dialing from within France just use the last 10 digits starting with the (0)1. Calling Le Vieux Bistro to make my reservation.

A perfect eye catcher!

by JLBG

North American visitors are often surprised at the amount of candid nudity (or almost candid!) they can see in France. I feel that this one, that was everywhere on the walls of the metro in June 2006, is a kind of master piece: it actually does not show anything though it seems to show everything. A perfect eye catcher!

A word to the wise: unless you...

A word to the wise: unless you are in an international chain like the Hilton or Sofitel, you may find French hotels a tad small. That's normal: there's less space in Europe and space is considered less important for comfort !
