Carnet of Tickets or Paris Visite Pass!!???

by BonjourParis82

Hello, So I've decided that I will be taking the train/bus/tram everywhere I go in Paris...but i don't know if i should buy the 10 carnets of tickets or the Paris Visite Pass...I have to get from CDG to Porte Orleans when we arrive, then we're doing a day trip to Versailles. everything else inbetween will be tourist stuff within Paris.

Any recommendations on what I should get...the individual tickets or the pass??

Depends on your use, of course. We went through a carnet of 10 tickets over a week (there were three of us travelling) - we stayed right downtown, perhaps 10 minutes from Notre Dame by foor. The train from CDG was 8.50 Euro each.

We tend to be walkers. We would head out in the morning and would sometimes take either the Metro or RER train back. All in all the only place we really needed the Metro was when we went to Montmartre. Everything else was quite close and walking distance.

It really depends on where you are staying and how much use you will get out of it.

Agree with above - we use a carnet between the two of us (10 tickets - 5 each) and really only use the metro for Montmartre as it is a long-ish way out and if we found ourselves at the Eiffel Tower/Arch de Triomph area later in the evening and wanting to get back to the Latin Quarter for dinner (and where we always stay).
Also, the catacombs are a little way-out past the Luxumburg Gardens - and Parc des Buttes-Chaumont.
The carnets are not valid for the trip from CDG to the centre.

Is the Paris Visite Pass the one to use for "free" museum entree? If so, then buy the carnet, as you don't mention visiting museums. Paris IS for walking. i'd suggest taking the city buses, as opposed to trains, as often as possible. They're less crowded (fewer pickpockets), and you can obviously see more of the city from the surface.

Travel Tips for Paris

Try to speak the language at least!

by pauleast

When in Paris remember you are in France and French is the local language not English!
Even if your schoolboy French is not up to much learn the basic words as it will be appreciated.
Try to order your food in French as you will probably get better service than barking your order at the waiter in loud English

Sacre-Caeur is the symbol of romantic Monmartre, where you can always find your own Ameli! If you... smell out the original one, please let me know, I'm in love with her!
This church is the second highest point of Paris, the bell at its tower is one of the heaviest in the world: 18,5 tones! I think that the oval cupola of it looks so nice...

Church of Sacre Coeur (Sacred Heart), perched on the Butte Montmarte, a hill rising to 101 m (331 ft.) above the Seine. With a commanding view of most of Paris, this is a very popular place (just look at the crowds behind me!). The church is a huge basilica in Romanesque/Byzantine style with a dome 83 m (272 ft.) high. It was built in fulfillment of a vow taken by a group of Catholics after the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71. It was not completed until 1914. I wanted a close up picture in front of it..... (and this was taken).....

Be in Paris on the 14th July II.

Of course if you are in or around Paris on the 14th the other thing not to be missed is the firework display in the evening. Shot from the Trocadero, just opposite the Eiffel Tower, there are not that many places to get a good view, unless once again, you can get up high. If you can afford it at the restaurant at the Eiffel tower, high on the Montparnasse tower. I was at a private party about 200 metres from the tower, near the Hilton and had a superb view. I don't generally bother with firework displays, but invited onto the 14th floor terrace for an aperitif and overlooking the Seine and Trocadero, it was difficult to say no.

Princess of Paris. Okay, this lady here is the current princess of Pariss...lol. Somebody by the name S.Arumugam painted this woman long long time ago, and now it belongs to the Pyramid owner but according to S.Freud, it was some other stories of psycho-analysis, anyway tourists like it very much....Hahaha
