Cute, nice views, used to be reasonable value

I've stayed in this hotel about half a dozen times and really love it. It's not grand, it's not on any of the 'must stay at' lists, but to me it personifies Paris. The rooms are small, the lift absolutely miniscule and the hairdryers sloooooowww .. but the staff are friendly, the breakfast ample, and it's close to the Pompidou Centre, Les Halles and various metro stops.
If you get there via taxi, make sure you have a map or clear directions in French, because the road name isn't known to most taxi drivers, nor will they necessarily know the hotel.

*STOP PRESS 2005* The hotel has been refurbished and upgraded to 4 stars, and is now the Golden Tulip Little Palace. The rates have also gone up from around 120 euro a night to 190. Unless the rooms are now truly splendid, I'm not sure this is value for money any more. Sigh.

Unique Quality: If you book, ask for a room on the 7th floor - 71 or 74. These have little balconies which overlook the park in front. You can hear the fountains and watch old guys play boules. And in front of you is a classic view over the rooftops of Paris. Lovely.

Small two star or three star...

Small two star or three star hotels. Book them at your travelangency in your hometown. That is cheaper.
- Stay at the Hotel du Roi René near Montmartre. That is very nice.
- Or go to the more expensive Tulip Inn Little Palace Hotel near Centre Pompidou.
- Another possiblity is a hotel outside Paris (especially when you have a car or don't mind going to Paris by train)
- prices at du Roi René 50-80 guilders per night (=20-30 dollars)
- prices Tulip Inn 75-100 dollars per night
- prices Gril Campanile Morangis 30-40 dollars per night

This is a nice little palace of the French royalty

You should stop by this palace, it's definately a nice place to see history and beautiful architecture of the famous dynasty of the French royals. Look in the travel logues to see more pictures.
