Notre Dame, good location.
by charlesracine
We stayed there in October 2012 and were very satisfied. The rooms and location are very good, a metro entrance is 3 minutes /1 block away and Notre Dame is within walking distance, about 5 or 6 blocks. During the summer months there is a bar open on the roof with nice views, to one side Notre Dame and the other the Eifel Tower. We took the elevator to the top for pictures.
There are several restaurants a short walking distance / 1 block in the direction of Notre Dame. Our rooms were very quiet even though our rooms were on the street side. Several things were also close by including a drug store, of course souvenir shops and bars.
The hotel staff were very good and helpful also.
Unique Quality: Quiet and good location for walking around. We found this location by Notre Dame better than the area by George V though, this is not comparing hotel quality. We have also stayed relatively near (6 blocks) the Eifel Tower at the Hotel Relais Bosquet.
Directions: Latin Quarter

by DebraBia
I am going to be in Paris for New Years 2010. This is my first time to visit. I am looking for the best spots to celebrate New Years Eve. Any suggestions?

I will be there as well. Any idea if any of the boat companies do cruises only? Not interested in the dinner ones. Thanks!

Travel Tips for Paris

by Sinta
There are hundreds of places you must see in Paris. We live about 4 hours by car from Paris and a few days stay is not enough to see it all. You must not return home without viewing the Eiffel Tower. Better yet, see the breathtaking view of Paris around you from the highest point of the tower. For this, you need a day. You might say, this is western Europe and no hawkers. Well, I had a great time bargaining with the venders at the bottom of the Eiffel Tower.

The Obélisk at Place de la Concorde is immediately west of the Jardin des Tuileries and the Louvre. The monument was given to Charles X in 1829 by Mohammed Ali, Viceroy of Egypt, seeking support from the French. Standing 23 m (75 ft.) tall and weighing more than 220 tons, it is 3,300 years old and covered in Egyptian hieroglyphics.
Caroussel du Louvre
by CALSF
The alternate entrance to the Louvre is via the Caroussel du Louvre on rue de Rivoli. You pass through glass doors and down the stairs. The museum entrance is there as well as the shops of the Caroussel du Louvre. Also there are check-in desks for your coats and baggage.
Try to speak the language. ...
by jtb2inky
Try to speak the language. This is for all you Americans who expect everyone to speak English to cater to you - STOP! This will not go over well in Paris. People do speak English, and will do so if you prove yourself not to be a jerk. Even if you speak no French, pull out the Berlitz language guide and work your way through it. You'll be surprised at the results. I am convinced that 100% of the people that come back from Paris complaining about how 'rude the Parisians are' would have had a different experience had they tried to speak the language. This is true for travel to all locations.
Get lost!
by mywhitesofa
I just loved getting lost in Paris. Toss that map out the window and start walking. I found that it was so much more exciting to see the city this way. You'll never know what you'll find... quaint cafes, hidden side streets, funky cars... if you get tired of walking just ask where the nearest subway station is and poof, you're back where you started. of course, best to do all this wandering during the day though! ;D
