Marais tips please...

by jemima62

Well it's that time again and I'm soooo excited! For our trip to Paris at the end of March we've found a sweet little apartment in the 3rd. It's not that far really from where we normally stay in the Grands Boulevards/Montorgeuil area but although we've walked around the Marais quite a bit during the day we haven't spent any time there in the evenings (usually too weary and footsore to stray very far)
Therefore..... I'm looking for your tips on nice little cafes, bistros and bars where we can while away an evening over an inexpensive meal and a glass (or two!) of wine.

Bring it on VT'ers - I know I can always rely on you!!!

For something a little different, try Brezh Cafe, a bretagne creperie, but completely run by Japanese! the owner, a breton started his brezh cafe in tokyo and became popular there so decided to open one in Paris.. an eclectic crowd and it is fun to see japanese crepe makers and some of the waiters are also japanese..

Well what a good start! I've spent most of this evening poring over the Paris Marais website and it's a mine of information! I've also signed up for the newsletter. Thanks so much Jeannette.

Cochinjew, your tip also looks interesting; I love crepes but have never experienced a Japanese one!

Keep it coming guys!

see the Eiffel Tower. It may seem SO touristy but look at the structure and love the way it was built. The quiet streets of Montmartre, avoiding the most-obvious tourist route and passing Paris's last surviving vineyard! Just pure fun - and that is the way Paris should be in the widest of senses!

I loved so much to watch Paris' roof, i spent long time from Sacre Coeur, from Tour Eiffel and even from the hotel room window...It brought me back to "other" roof i loved so much to watch...Did you remeber baby? How i wish to be on your shoulder right now..

Free bicycle parking

by Nemorino

Some of the parking garages in Paris now provide free bicycle parking, like this one in the Rue de Rennes, near Gare Montparnasse.

Second photo: This underground parking garage near the Bastille also advertises free bicycle parking.

This year we were appalled to find that EVERY restaurant and bar we went to in Paris served ALL their red wine cold, like from the refrigerator. When we refused to order it a couple of them said it was not from the refrigerator, only from the cellar. Some very good, popular restaurants didn't even offer the customer a choice of cold or room temperature. We were happy to see that this 'in' thing was confined to Paris.

A Paris View from UNESCO

by Toshioohsako

I visited UNESCO for a short work in October 2008. These pictures were taken from the terrace of UNSECO's restaurant on the 7th floor. It is not so high but I thought it might be interesting to see for some VT members.
