More about Hotel Arc De Triomphe Etoile

Just down from the Arc de Triomphe

by Toughluck about Hotel Ceramic

Wonderful little hotel. 6 rooms to a floor that look into a courtyard or out over the street. With the windows closed there were no street sounds. The small balcony on the street side was a pleasant way to watch Paris go by.

Good Hotel near Arc De Triomphe

by amadhur about Hotel Royal Magda

The Hotel Royal Magda is a 1 minute walk from Arc De Triomple, on Rue Troyon, just off Ave Wagram. Its a small, but good hotel, and I liked staying in it.
Pros:
1. Friendly hospitable staff, who speak English
2. Decent room, not as small as others in Paris. We lived in a club double room, and the room was 15 sq metres, and had a good size bathroom with a bathtub.
3. Nice and safe area, with lots of hotels and restaurants nearby.
4. 1 minute walk to Charles De Gaulle Etoile metro stop, on Arc de Triomphe. From CDG Etoile you can get the line 1, 2 and 6.
5. 20 minute walk to Eiffel Tower, specially through the Trocadero, from where you get the best views of the tower
6. At one end of Champs des Elysees, so you keep on walking up and down this avenue!
7. 1 minute walk to Air France shuttle stop from the CDG airport.

Cons:
1. Small lift. Difficult to pack in 3 people, and generally it was difficult for me and my wife to fit in with the stroller. I just walked up the flight of steps while my wife and son took the elevator. Very very big luggage may not fit, even though mine did.
2. A bit far far (40 minutes in walking distance) from Louvre, Latin Quarter, etc. But 5 minutes when using Metro.

The *other* Arc de Triomphe

by Ewingjr98

Though not as famous as its cousin, le Arc de Triomphe Etoile, at the end of Champs Ellysees, the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel is impressive on its own. It sits in the Place du Carousel near the western end of the Louvre. on the axis with the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs Ellysees. It was built by Napoleon from 1806 to 1808 to celebrate his great victories throughout Europe. It is a bit smaller than the other Arc, standing only 63 feet tall, however the statues on the top are very impressive. The original statues were "liberated" from Venice, but returned after World War II, leaving replicas in their place today.

After climbing 284 steps, visiting the museum and admiring the views from the platform - I am taking a rest.

Paris

"Paris"

The words that came to mind while in Paris: modern, clean, beautiful, traffic, cold, historic, architecture, grand, elegant.

"Tour Eiffel"

Paris at night is as impressive as in the day...if not more.

We were told that at one point they wanted to tear the Eiffel Tower down...I can't imagine Paris without it!

"Arc de Triomphe Etoile"

We have already seen these wonderful historic landmarks in the past. I wanted to show a bit more, in this case...traffic and dark clouds.

Easter weekend in Paris

by Anntic

Hi
I am planning to be in Paris over the Easter Weekend. I am very interested in seeing the antique flea markets and some of the sites (I havent been to Paris for 30 years) Does anyone know what will be open over that weekend or is a waste of time to go there. According to one web site I found, Good Friday and the Saturday are not public holidays, but maybe people take it as a long week-end?? Thanks for any suggestions - also a nice cheap hotel, near the main locations eg Arc de Triomphe - or is that an impossible??

HOTEL :
Arc de Triomphe is not centrally located and it is in an expensive area.
I suggest :
Hotel Victoria Chatelet
17 rue Victoria
1e arrondissement
33140 26 90 17
Fax : 331 40 26 35 61
5 min walk from Notre Dame, Quartier Latin, St Germain des Pres and place du Chatelet which is the crossroad of the major metro lines. The line 4 (Porte de Clignancourt) passes by Chatelet to reach the flea market.
Price : 80 to 95 euros
It is too late to book a budget hotel like Henri IV.

FLEA MARKET :
The main one is between Porte de Clignancourt and porte de St Ouen.
Some merchants can be on holiday but the market itself is open during the Easter Week end.

ANTIQUE MARKET
Go also to the Louvre des Antiquaires 2 place du Palais Royal (metro : Palais Royal)
Expensive but the best antique pieces of Paris are there.

AUCTION HALL :
It is located rue Drouot (metro : Richelieu Drouot). It is certainly closed during the Easter WE but may be not the Good Friday.
Exibit on the morning, auction on the afternoon.
Anyway the shops in the neighborhood sell beautiful pieces, especially paintings.

Porte Maillot - Taxi's?

by jkay510

We are planning to take the Air France Shuttle from Paris CDG to Porte-Maillot. Will there be a problem getting a taxi at Porte-Maillot at around 23:00 hours on Sunday? (Need to go to the Courtyard Paris Neuilly Hotel which is about 1-2 miles from Porte-Maillot and don't want to walk at that hour.)

RE: Porte Maillot - Taxi's?

by Jeannette1

I personally would not chance it. At that time of the night, I would take a cab directly from CDG to my hotel. It's worth the price, I think.
If you decide on a taxi, make sure you have phone numbers for several cab companies to call, just in case you can't find a taxi cab.
Bon voyage

Thanks for reply. My initial choice was an airport shuttle to the hotel but have been unable, so far, to confirm if they go to the Neuilly. Taxi looks expensive since everything I've read says there is a 40% premium after 7:00PM, but if I don't get shuttle response I will look to take taxi from CDG. I assume no problem getting airport taxi - correct?

The Air France coaches stop at 11 p.m.
Have you thought about asking your hotel for recommendations?
Or you could possibly take the Air France coach to Arc de Triomphe (etoile) and then for sure you'd get a cab there.
Good luck!

AT that time of the night, you'll pay some 50-60 euros.
Ask to take the peripherique,
Exit Porte des ternes
Straigth ahead for 1 mile and you'll be there, behing Pricewaterhousecoopers building.
I live in Neuilly and often do that CDG-Neuilly trip
Rgds,
