I just recenlty returned from Paris and there were four of us traveling and we stayed at the Pavilion Pierre Arc De Triomphe. It's close to the Metro and very clean.

Hello,
I don't know if I can recommend it because I haventät been there yet but I'll be going to paris in the end of July and will stay at the Auberge Internationale des Jeunes à Paris, www.aijparis.com. Cheapest in town, €14 per night and I caught a quick glimpse of it in a Lonelyplanet guide. It got good remarks.
Take care,
Roger

Traffic in Paris
by Lilasel
Many roads in central Paris are clogged with traffic and there is a terrible traffic in the gates of Paris during rush hours, sunday evenings, end of Easter, august holidays. So if you have a car try to avoid this time.
Anyway the mayor of Paris has such plan: Four districts in the heart of Paris could be closed to all but local residents' vehicles by 2012.
Buskers #2 : Place des Vosges
by tiabunna
At a very different point in the musical spectrum, this group of young musicians were playing to an appreciative audience in a somewhat run-down section of the arches surrounding the Place des Vosges.
I presume the group may well be from a music school and, from VT tips, it seems quite a few others have encountered different groups of classical musicians here. Check Vter Nemorino’s tip for a listing of reports . These musicians were playing one of Bach’s Brandenburg concertos – and doing an excellent job of it. You hear about matching wine to meals: this was matching music to locale, if ever there was!
Had I not been bent on covering as much touristic ground as possible, I would have been very tempted to stay and soak up the ambience. Whether they are there daily I do not know, but my visit was on a Sunday.
Gare St Lazare
by sourbugger
Several years ago, I was in Paris with my then girlfiend (and as it happens future wife). We both stood in front of Monet's famous painting of the Gare St lazare and remarked at the same time that it was our own favourite painting.
I suspect she saw the technique of of an impressionist master in it, whilst I just probably like the steam trains.
Monet himself did several paintings there, setting up his easel on the platform. He presumbly saw the station as a kind of Cathedral to the Modern movement - and thus appropriate to the new style of painting.
You can still see (roughly) the same scene at the station today. The roof has been extended since Monet's day, the trains are now of course electric and the docks at the rear of the station have disappeared - but it is still recognisiably the same place.
Manet also did a famous painting in the same location, which is also shown here.
