My Fave Budget Hotel in Paris

Named after the famed composer and located in the idyllic Passage Jouffroy next to the Musée Grévin (the famous waxworks museum), the Hôtel Chopin is my favorite budget find in Paris! The building is considered an historical monument and is protected (as is the passage in which it sits). Passages are glass-covered arcades that are precursors to our modern-day shopping malls, but unlike shopping malls you generally find small, local shops inside - a great chance to feel the local flavor. Once a part of the landscape in Paris there are now relatively few passages or galeries left.

I tried the breakfast buffet which is wonderful: cereal, fresh-squeezed orange juice (that you may squeeze yourself in the machine), croissants, rolls, butter, yogurt, fresh fruit salad, café, chocolat chaud (hot chocolate), tea - oui, it's all there!

Because it was off-season I was given a larger room at the price of the cheapest (66 euro) when I'd asked for a blue room. I'd just finished a stay at a youth hostel for 8 days straight and craved privacy, insularity, and my own shower (this one was perfect - great water pressure, hot and clean).

This is the sister hotel to the Hôtel de la Bretonnerie, located in the Marais (and MUCH more expensive).

Unique Quality: A beautiful covered passage with lots of cool shopping, smack dab between 2 Métro stations within a block's walk, famous touristy shops & restos on Bd Montmartre (this street becomes Bd Haussmann a block away):
Haagen Dazs
Hard Rock Café
McDonald's
Starbucks
Virgin Megastore

Two of the most famous department stores are within walking distance: Galeries Lafayette is 6 blocks away & Printemps is 8.

Next door is the wax museum, Musée Grevin. When you come home at night, you buzz the door outside of the passage, they let you in and you have the darkened passage all to yourself.

Just a few doors down from the hotel is a most wonderful patisserie (pastry shop) called Le Valentin. Outside the passage around the corner is famed Bouillon Chartier.

A BEST PLACE TO STAY.....

This is a wonderful and...very sought after hotel!
It is situated near the Boulevard Hausmann where les GRANDS MAGASINS are.....in the very heart of the city.

There are two ways to enter this sweet hotel: 10, boulevard Montmartre and at 46, passage Jouffroy.........

It is a real must to book at least 2 month in advance.....more and more people discover this lovely place.......as we did.......

Unique Quality: Friendly people, lovely and quiet rooms.......not too expensive

Stay undercover ... * 9e

A very popular inexpensive choice in one of the historic Parisian "galeries" or passages. While a simple hotel, its charm is in its location inside one of the great historic shopping passages. Since the hotel entrance is inside the Galerie Jouffroy you are given a key to enter the passage gates after hours!

Hotel Chopin
525 FF per night for a double room. 40 FF for breakfast per person, non-compulsory.

Unique Quality: This two star hotel is situated in a delightful little shopping arcade that is, along with the hotel, a listed building. The staff are very helpful and friendly and the rooms quite spacious for a city. Ask for a room on the top floor as these are the biggest and quietest plus you get a reasonable view across the rooftops of Paris from the big windows.

The hotel is in a really good location because you are right in the centre of the city, not far from the Opera. Passage Jouffroy has lots of nice little shops selling things like antiques, books, walking sticks, stamps, dolls houses, African and Asian art etc. Each end of the arcade leads to another similar passage with the same sort of restaurants and shops. The metro is almost right outside the doors arcade and the lines run directly to the most important monuments and quatiers.
