A unique Parisian place, a friendly service

I stayed in this hotel with my family as recommended by Lonely Planet for budget hotel. Although the Hotel is tiny and not expensive but the service is SUPER EXCELLENT. The atmosphere is homey, warm, and antique as it is in one of original houses of Paris. We happened to get a room at the attic! When we opened the window we can see University of Sorbornne rooftop right in front of us :)

The croissants and breads were huge and delicious but most delighting, the service staff was really friendly and helpful.

I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone who travel in budget but wants to have original unique, warm and friendly atmosphere of Paris to stay.

Unique Quality: The elevator is so tiny, only 2 people can get in...well, you are stuck in a tiny elevator and in a romantic city, all you can do is kiss your beloved one in front of you ;)

The staff was very helpful. We arrived late at the hotel, it was raining and winter-cold. My mom and sis was left 1 block behind me and my dad. Without us asking for help, he took an umbrella and picked up my mom and sis! That was certainly a VERY EMPHATIC SERVICE, I think that's his genuine personality. Anyways until now, whenever we remember his act, we always praise him. Love you, Cluny staff...shame shame we forgot his name....He has a bit long curly hair with relaxing style :)

Excellent value & location in 5th district

This hotel is an excellent value. It is well located in the 5th district (Latin quarter), yet on a relatively quiet street along the Sorbonne. The staff is really nice and will do anything to help. The rooms are very clean, but very small and some paint on the wall is coming off. The elevator is also very tiny. It is a 2 star hotel after all! Some rooms have a lovely view on the roofs of Sorbonne and the Panthéon, but these are slightly noisy at night (occasional traffic, car or motorbike noise, plus a bar a block away with people voices on the terrace reflecting on the house's walls). The alternative is to get a room on the quiet inner courtyard, but no view then. There is no air conditioning so if it is warm weather, you will need to open your window. They have free wifi.

I also liked that it was close (3 minute walk) to the Luxembourg RER B station, which is the direct train line to the airport. Like at all hotels in Paris, breakfast is not included in the price (2011: 98 euros for 2 people in a double room) and costs, if I remember right, 8 euros.

I highly recommend this little hotel!

Unique Quality: Great location, practical to take the train to the airport (RER B to Charles de Gaulle-Roissy airport).

Some rooms with a lovely view (Sorbonne, Le Panthéon)

Excellent Location Budget Hotel

The Hotel Cluny Sorbonne is a very well managed, clean hotel with lots of character in an 18th century building across the street from the famous university the Sorbonne. It is on a quiet street one block from the busy Blvd Saint Michel. This was our first experience with European hotels and we were prepared for very small rooms. Our room here was indeed very small as was the private bathroom and the lift; however, we were very comfortable and loved the charm of this old building. There are larger rooms than the one we had, in fact we peeked in one room as it was being cleaned and it was absolutely enormous. The staff was always very kind and helpful.
We loved the location, we walked everywhere. In the area are plenty of cafes, shops, ATMs, internet cafes, bookstores and just about anything else you could possibly need. We could walk to Notre Dame, the Louvre, the Pantheon, Ile St. Louis for ice cream, Musee D'Orsay, Sainte Chappelle, etc. The Luxembourg metro station is just a few blocks away and the RER B line to and from CDG airport stops here making it very easy to take the train directly from the airport to the hotel.
We loved this hotel and will definitely stay here again.

Le Soufflot is a great outdoor café between the Pantheon and Luxembourg Garden with excellent food, great people watching, and very good, hard-working waiters.

Le Volcan is just behind the Pantheon and is also very good.

Budget Quads/Family Rooms in Paris

I created a list some time ago regarding quadruple rooms or family rooms in Paris that don't cost an arm & a leg. People still e-mail me periodically to get a copy of the list. It is terribly difficult to find a room that holds this many people and it's even more difficult to find them at a decent cost. So here I present the list to you. Hope it helps you out!

Grand Hotel Jeanne d'Arc in the Marais (4th) has quads for $129/night (not too much more), is very clean & is quite close to Notre Dame. But you'll need to book a couple of months in advance.
Here's a short list of definites:
CASTEX HOTEL - 4th/Marais - 91E (about $90)
GRAND HOTEL JEANNE D'ARC - 4th/Marais - $120
HOTEL DES CROISES - 9th - apt. w/ 2bdrms - quoted in 1999 @ 550FF (about $80)

Unique Quality: Here's a list of FAMILY ROOMS (hopefully they mean Quads):
4th Arrondissement
HOTEL DE NICE - 4th/Marais (42 bis r de Rivoli)
HOTEL SAINT-MERRY - 4th (78 r de la Verrierie)
GRAND HOTEL JEANNE D'ARC - 4th/Marais – (3 r de Jarente) (mentions 12 family rooms so you’re likely to get adjoining rooms)
HOTEL DE LUTECE - 4th (59 r Saint-Louis-en-l’Ile)
5th Arrondissement
HOTEL DEGRES DE NOTRE DAME - 5th (10 r des Grands Degrees)
HOTEL DES GRANDES ECOLES - 5th (75 r Cardinal Lemoine)
LE JARDIN DES PLANTES - 5th (5 r Linne)
HOTEL CLUNY SORBONNE - 5th (8 r Victor Cousin)
6th Arrondissement
HOTEL SAINT-PAUL - 6th/St. Germain de Pres (43 r Monsieur Le Prince)
HOTEL DE L'ODEON - 6th (13 r Saint-Sulpice)
REGENT'S HOTEL - 6th (44 r Madame)
HOTEL DU DANUBE - 6th (58 r Jacob)
HOTEL SAINT-ANDRE-DES-ARTS - 6th (66 r Saint-Andre-des-Arts)
9th Arrondissement
HOTEL DE BEAUHARNAIS - 9th (51 r de la Victoire)
17th Arrondissement
HOTEL ETOILE PARK - 17th (10 ave Mac-Mahon)
18th Arrondissement
HOTEL ERMITAGE - 18th (24 r Lamarck)
Of course, most of these you'll need to book a few months in advance. Other than that, you might try a Hostel, such as the Young & Happy Youth Hostel on Rue Mouffetard in the 5th (http://www.youngandhappy.fr/english/sum.htm) Le Village Hostel in Montmartre (http://www.villagehostel.fr/).

Charming little room facing La Sorbonne

We were looking for an affordable little hotel in the Quartier Latin. Hotel Cluny was waiting for us and some of my acquaintances keep going back for the good service, amazing and practical location and low price. It's charming, calm, clean and well maintain.

We had a small room decorated with the most beautiful antiques, private small bathroom and dreamy view on Paris. Also cable tv, phone, hair dryer, elevator, 24 hours receptionist.

Unique Quality: The location is impressive and beautiful as much as practical for someone staying in the Quartier Latin near La Sorbonne (just in front!), Notre Dame cathedral, Louvres, Pantheon, Luxembourg Gardens...

Another inexpensive hotel in the Latin Quarter

We were moved here for one night when the Hotel de la Sorbonne was having heating problems.

The double room was a little larger than the Hotel de la Sorbonne and the decor was pretty bland. The tv had a couple of English channels along with the French ones.

The bathroom was much larger than the Hotel de la Sorbonne but it had a bathtub (actually about 1/2 the size of a regular tub) with a shower head, not so good for an American who likes a shower. The bathroom had a hair dryer, soap and shampoo.

The posted room rate was 80E, same as the Hotel de la Sorbonne.

The Cluny Sorbonne on Rue...

The Cluny Sorbonne on Rue Victor Hugo was fine for my mother and I. It is SMALL as most hotel rooms are in that city but it worked just fine and was relatively inexpensive. It is located right next to the Sorbonne in the Latin Quarter.

Unique Quality: There was nothing too unique about it except that it was really small. But, I understand that is the going thing in Paris. Altogether it was clean and nice.

Hi. Try this link for a lot of reviews on your hotel.

I've stayed at the Hotel de la Sorbonne right next door and you can read my review if you click on my name, then look at my Paris page and the Hotel/Accomodation tip. The Cluny Sorbonne is at 8 rue Victor Cousin and the Hotel de la Sorbonne is at 6 rue Victor Cousin. The location is fabulous. There are several Metro stations nearby and the Luxembourg and Cluny RER stations are also within blocks. You can easily walk to Notre Dame, Ste. Chapelle, the Louvre, the d'Orsay, St. Germain des Pres and many other wonderful tourist sights. It is a very pleasant safe neighborhood.

No negatives from my point of view.

Good luck.
