Adequate hotel in a run-down neighborhood

This is a no-frills two-star hotel within walking distance of the Gare de l'Est, where the direct trains from Frankfurt am Main arrive and leave.

Because I booked at short notice, their single rooms at 55 Euros per night were already sold out, so I had to take one for 78 -- still not a bad price.

The bed was fine, the shower was fine, the room was large and quiet, the whole place was clean, the people at reception were friendly, so I was quite satisfied since all I wanted to do there was to sleep and shower.

Breakfast was available for an extra seven Euros but I didn't try it, since there are some nice cafés a few blocks away -- but not in the immediate vicinity, which is quite seedy, with lots of beggars and empty shops.

One thing I should mention is that you have to climb a flight of stairs to get to reception. This was not an issue for me, but might be an issue for people with heavy luggage or mobility problems. The hotel is spread out over two different buildings, each of which has an elevator, but the elevators only serve the upper floors and do not go down to ground level. This hotel is not accessible for people in wheelchairs, as far as I can tell.

Despite the name, this is a hotel, not a motel. I didn't notice any parking facilities, but they claim they can provide private parking places for cars, by reservation only, for an additional 15 Euros per day.

There are two Vélib' stations very close to the hotel, a small one just down the block at on Boulevard de Strasbourg (station 10002 with 17 attachment points) and a larger one just around the corner on Rue de Metz (station 10004 with 63 attachment points).
