Worst Hotel
Hotel was over booked when we arrived and my children was passed on to another low standard hotel for the first night. We paid the bill when they left the next morning.
On the last night at Hotel Darcet the owner refused us entry to our room before the bill was paid. He gave us a single figure invoice and refused us entry to our room to get our reservation to confirm the price or to give us a breakdown of the invoice. After a prolonged and agressive discussion from the owner we proved that he charged us the fee for the first night for our children when they had slept at the other hotel.
The first night we had no blankets and the night staff refused to supply blankets.
We had mushrooms growing in the showers.
Unique Quality: Lift only big enough for one person and one suitcase.

Avoid this hotel
Avoid this hotel at all costs. I booked a party of 20 people for 2 nights a month in advance. When we arrived we told to return 3 hours later as the rooms were not prepared. When we returned 3 hours later we were told to return in another 2 hours. When I asked if there was a problem, the very rude, manager informed me that he only had 5 triple rooms for us (which we had not asked for) and the others would have to find alternative accomodation. When I complained, he called the police and accused me of threatning him, (totaly untrue). We were told to leave by the police, as were another party of 16 and a young Australian couple as there were no rooms. Take heed and avoid this troublesome (and smelly) hotel.

French hotel
Our room was located at the 3rd floor and the window faces the window of the opposite building (well, we drew the curtains when dressing up).
Going up to the room, there are 2 choices: use the spiral staircase, or the one-man elevator. Why one-man? Because it could only accommodate one person with one luggage at a time.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. In fact, when we compared our hotel with the hotel of our friends who were also in Paris at that time, we got the better bargain in terms of price and location. And on top, our hotel's concierge was not nosey, just helpful.
Unique Quality: The hotel is a stone's throw from Moulin Rouge and the entertainment strip which makes the area "alive" even late into the night. It is also conveniently located close to a Metro station, a Chinese restaurant, a burger fast food store, a laundromat, and a hairdresser.

Friendly, informed service in renovated hotel
I stayed here for four nights in early June 2004 and found the staff to be very courteous and helpful. The hotel is under renovations now, but rooms are clean, organized and airy.
Unique Quality: The location of the Darcet in the 18th arrondis. (area) at Place de Clichy makes it a great launching place for sightseeing and metro travel. Many restaurants and shops are in the area and its a fairly safe neighborhood. There are internet access, pay phone, tour information available. No refridgerators are in the room, but there is a super market across the avenue so, that's not a problem.
