Enjoyed the Hotel des Grands Hommes
by TripAdvisor Member traveltexan
We stayed at the Hotel des Grands Hommes in April on a business trip and weekend getaway. It was our first trip to Paris and we wanted to stay in the Left Bank. There are lots of options for staying in this area, and while the Hotel des Grands Hommes is not the most centrally located hotel, it is within walking distance to major sights and classic Parsien streets. There is also easy access to the underground for transportation to/from the airport and trains to London.
The staff spoke English when asked and were very polite. It's a historic hotel across from the Pantheon. Our room was traditonally decorated and quite large for our expectations. Our room on the second floor had a small balcony with chairs that faced into a small courtyard.
We enjoyed our stay at this hotel and the time we spent roaming the surrounding streets, cafes, and park. It was a great value for the price and we would recommend the hotel to friends.
Wonderful top floor room with balcony!

We stayed for five nights in room 61 which is on the 6th floor and has its own balcony. The room was very clean and bright, quite small but with plenty of storage space, somewhat unusual wall paper but all the same it was lovely! Our room had its own balcony which had a wonderful view of the Pantheon and square, great to watch the world go by while having a good glass of red wine! Getting there couldn't be easier, the train from the airport straight to Luxemborg stop and then a 3 minute walk. We had the most amazing time in Paris and arriving at this charming hotel just made it all the better. The hotel was in a great location, while in a quiet location, it was near lots of bars, retaurants, shops and the Metro. I would recommend this hotel!
Some like it hot!

Just returned from a 3 night stay at this hotel - a special trip with my mother and daughter which was booked and confirmed over 2 months in advance. On arrival I was told there was 'a problem' and we could not have a room with a view. Actually what she meant was they had given our superior room to someone else - presumably someone willing to pay a higher rate than the one we booked with them!
No offer was given of compensation or even that they would give us a reduction from the superior rate to the standard rate until we asked!
To top it all we had arrived to temperatures of over 100 degrees and the hotel refused to put on the air conditioning as it was not summer! They advertise air conditioning on their website but don't say it can't be switched on until June even if you are frying in your beds. Many guests were complaining but the staff/management just shrugged it off.
Generally disappointing as this is really a lovely hotel but let down by a very poor attitude by the staff/management who have never heard of customer service.
You are paying for location
by TripAdvisor Member onthroadagain
It depends on what you were looking for. If you are looking for a cute hotel in a great neighborhood and you don't care about the price than this is a good bet. Really, you are paying for the location as this hotel is DIRECTLY across from the Pantheon, just up the road from Luxembourg gardens (with a direct RER line to the airports), and easy walk from St. Germain. This hotel's charming reviews seem to come from people who have stayed in the Superior rooms with a view. If you are planning to stay in one of those rooms, you will not find much better (some rooms even have a private balcony). For all others: you can expect a VERY small room (even by Paris standards), although a very large bathroom (takes up half of the room), and a steep price. For the money you could do better I think.
A perfect find!

I booked this for my boyfriends birthday. Despite getting a really good internet price, they put us in a beautiful room, with fruit to greet us on arrival. The location is perfect, we walked to all the sights, but the best bit was being so close to all the resturants and bars of the latin quater. I think other reviews have said about the rooms being small, but we liked it as it was so perfectly presented, we even had bathrobes, which you never get in the UK. Noise has also been mentioned...yes you are on the main square, but with the windows closed we could hear very little, and besides the view made up for it! I would stay again, but would recomend anyone to hold out for a good deal on their own website
Exquisite!

Pleasantly surprised by a beautiful, comfortable, superior double room with large French windows opening upon the Pantheon. Located in the Latin Quarter near to Notre Dame and St. Germain with loads of local color from student-filled cafes, cheese and wine shops, and narrow streets to explore. The only tour busses were those nearing the Pantheon during the day, but the crowds were never excessive. Hotel staff were very helpful and pleasant. Room accommodations were tasteful and stylish. This is one of the "Preference Hotels," a luxury line of hotels. Best thing is we obtained this room at more than 50% off! A fine bargain! Would definitely stay again, as I feel I found a rather private place in an awfully busy city.
Great hotel in excellent location

Spent six days in excellent comfort. Yes to some the rooms are small but they are exceptionally well appointed. Staff were courteous and helpful at all times. The rate we paid was a steal compared to other hotels in Paris for the excellent quiet location. Would stay there next time.
Wonderful service!

We stayed Aug 17-21 and loved the location. Right across the street from the Pantheon. With cafes and shops galore nearby, and the metro just a short walk away it's convenient to say the least. Good walking locale if you like to hoof it. Notre Dame and Louvre are an easy distance on foot. We did not opt for the breakfast plan, no need with so many good cafes nearby. You will be unpleasantly surprised by the size of the rooms, we're talking miniscule here, with no storage to speak of. Thankfully the bathrooms do not follow suit. If you are like us and do not intend to spend much time in your room you will be pleased with this hotel. We think the location and the warm personal attention from each and every member of the staff we encountered more than made up for the size of the room, we will stay there again.

The Grand Hotel des Balcons is near where you are looking at in the Latin Quarter. Near the Odeon subway station but still on a quiet street, rue Casimir Delavigne. Stayed there in August and it was 100 euro each night but might be less for off season.
check their website at www.balcons.com
